Do you actually sit or are you just reading? Do you have a teacher? The whole "zen is a philosophy" thing is usually not espoused by people who are actually putting their butt on the mat. If you aren't already involved with a sitting group or a zen center and would like some advice on how to do so pm me. That goes for anyone else, too.

If this ever goes anywhere, I think we found our ringleader.

Black Prism was sort of a slow start, but I loved it. Blinding Knife comes out next month. I'm going to his book signing in SF, are you going too?

seeing as this is like my 4th post on BF and probably nobody cares what my screen name is, I'll just say it anyways
I have been called a giant since I was like 3yrs old, and I like to ride the single speed. And that right there is a true story live action

Painfully average.
I mean that I couldn't get very far into THAT series, as in maybe only like 7 chapters of the Black Prism. I'm on the fence, I'll let you know if I go though.

Anyone read the Vlad Taltos series by Steven Brust? I haven't read the whole series but the few I've read have been excellent.
Also really liked Red Thunder and Red Lightning by John Varley.
My favourite is probably Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson, Snow Crash is good too. But I just couldn't get through the Baroque Cycle

Really?! I was mad at him after reading that one, I swore I wouldn't read anymore Stephenson after that*. If any book ever demonstrated a painful, glaring need for an editor who can tell the author when to "get to the freaking point!", that book is it. Did we really need 3 pages of exposition on how he likes to eat his Cap'n Crunch?
* I'm reading Diamond Age now, it's like an abusive relationship. I know I'll be angry at the guy by the end of the book, but I want to believe that this time will be different, that he'll ramble less and, maybe, write a decent ending.

My name FixMe came from the fact that I've been a bicycle mechanic for 12 years and I also ride fixed, so the name applies to both things that I do. Plus, I'm in nursing school now, so instead of fixing bikes, I'll be fixing people. So it just fits all around. Thought it was kinda cool.
Name is Zach btw, and I'm from New Jersey.

the Baroque Cycle turned me off to Stephenson which is a bummer because I really like SnowCrash. Gibson in the same Genre' is quite strong, Pattern Recognition is fun and of course there is Virtual Light with is even cycling related. Max Brook's books have had me rolling, The Dresden Files are fun too

As for the Diamond Age's ending ...

I didn't wish to use my common user name, which I've been using (and still almost always find available) since the very late 1990s. I asked myself what was something bicycle related, and innocuous. A blinking red tail light came to mind. fine. Blinkie.

Jaytron has been my gamer handle for years.
Also my nickname was "Jaytron the party robot" for a number of years.
Got the idea from Del the Funky *****apien, and the album Deltron 3030. Specifically the song "3030" where he says "i want yall meet Deltron zero, hero, not no small feat." I mixed it with "Jay" (a nickname of mine) to make "Jaytron". I then used "Jaytron zero the world's hero" while gaming with some friends and it stuck. This turned into Jaytronzero, then eventually into Jaytron.

People have a memory loss.
Garlic rice was what I was eating for breakfast when I had the morning off and decided to create a BF account after months of lurking. Not the coolest story ever.

In all seriousness I am just a dude (no one you've heard of) who was once fortunate enough to travel around playing records with my friends for a living. Then recession and 30. These days i'll occasionally go out and play records, but i'm enjoying homelife with the fam and bieks much more.
In retrospect, I apologize if my previous posts ever came off as namedroppy. I hate that s***.
