I LOVE MY VELOCITY RIMS.
Velocity didn't pay me to say that. |
Concerning the velocity/formulas on velomine, would I be sacrificing weight for the looks? Or to phrase it another way, is there a lighter wheelset of comparable price and quality?

I don't know anything about velocity rims, but I smashed a set of formula hubs on a bmx bike once. I've got a high flange Paul on a sun rim that's holding up great though.

You want the cheapest set of lightweight wheels with the quality of velocity deep Vs? |
One of them (front wheel) ended up going into a manhole at high speed when I had a brain fart and forgot to bunny hop. The rear's races got crushed on one side, I don't remember how that happened though. It was about 14 years ago.

oh yeah i see, totally an issue with the formula hubs. The higher end models actually have a manhole warning alert.

..is that a gay joke? I can't figure out if I'm offended or aroused.

I'm not even saying that the front wheel meets manhole caused the formulas to fail, but the smashed out races in the rear messed me up for a while. I'm also not saying that someone should avoid buying some formula hubs, just sharing my only experience riding them. Paul and sun aren't going near any open manholes, but they take the railroad tracks pretty good.

well to everyone that responded to my post, cheers. I'll probably grab a set off of velomine. carry on with the conversations

My 2006 Giant Bowery rear wheel needed truing bad (my u-lock got caught up in it). Both wheels had alot of foul weather mileage on them (my winter / rain commuter for the past 5 years). Rather than spend the money on a truing, I looked into a lighter wheelset that wouldn't break the bank (after all, the entire bike only cost me $400 brand new). Went with these:
http://www.wabicycles.com/GXwheels.html Have been quite happy with them so far. Definitely make the bike lighter / better accelerating. Match the bike better, IMO, too, than the OEM wheels (I have the polished Bowery). |
