Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

kilo tt or state bicycle

I was thinking of getting a new fixed gear for under $500 and ended up with two: mercier kilo tt and state bicycle.
Which one would you guys recommend? If not, is there other fixed gear under $500 you would recommend?

p.s. I'm looking for simple design, so for kilo tt im looking at the stripper version, with no decals.

You are asking a question that has been completely beat into the ground.

You might not have found that exact question. But that doesn't mean it's not out there.

People around here ask, what's the best bike for me? But they leave off a bunch of info. By the time we squid the info out of the person theyve changed the budget or something. Further, people ask about the kilo TT but then realize it's out of stock everywhere so we spin that around for a while. Then you start talking about State but don't specify models. In the end, a few people say this bike, a few say that bike. Most of us hang around the edges and hurl insults.

I have both. If you care about craftmanship, the Kilo is the way to go. The welds on the State (specifically, The Contender) looks like a young child from China did it quickly cuz he had like 100 more do weld on that day. Wheels are heavy, and the saddle is too small, the cog is questionable. SRAM cranks are the only name brand thing on it..

Ride quality, same. Coolness factor, choose State.
