Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Steamroller Question

Guys I have a surly steamroller and I would like to know if 26" wheels will fit it. If so what is the widest tires I could put on them? The wheels will come with 2.10 tires....

Seriously? Why would you ever want to do that?

Steamroller is designed for 700c. 26" wheels will fit, but you'll never find brake calipers to reach (although there's probably some insane conversion kit out there, as there generally is for most everything).

Some random info: the only model from Surly that have an option for 700c and 26" is the Long Haul Trucker wich doesn't have diagonal or horizontal dropouts.

Also, your BB will end up being much closer to the ground and the bike will handle differently.

And even then, we're talking two different frames -- it's not like they're shipping the same frame with either 700C or 26" wheels attached.

Steamroller fits 38c tires max. There is no way 2.10 tires will fit.

Also, the bottom bracket is already super low on the steamroller.

You guys have given me all the info I needed. I asked the question cause a guy offered to trade a set of 26 for a set of my 700 and I just wanted to see if it was an option for my steamroller. What better place for a newbie to ask the question than here

i appreciate the advice guys and I will heed it....

Coolness. Now, if you wanted a fixed-gear with fat 26" tires, there are plenty of 1980's mountain bikes out there, just waiting to be converted.

There are plenty of fixed gear frames that fit large 26 inch tires that are out now.

The difference in overall diameter of 700c x 26mm Stradius Sport and 26 x 2.1" Mythos XC is actually pretty small, maybe 3/8". Would be about half that at the BB
