good question. i thought about doing it, but i thought that it would give me flexibility with the seat post and bike seat colors if i went with something different. i feel like the area would have too much going on so i went with orange and use the seat to match the accent color. may be stupid in the long run but we'll see.

also, it is getting a wet sand and matte finish today so it wont be nearly as shiny.

How have I missed this thread until now? WOW.

Bikes should be fun, so do whatever color scheme makes you happy. If you ever change your mind, you can always repaint it.

Actually, no, you're doing surprisingly well. The 'WOW' was more a reaction to the amount of conflicting signals and related noise- I was amazed you managed to get anything out of it.

ara35 10-09-12 08:35 AM

Thanks. actually messed up wet sanding and have to redo the seat tube. little delay but i think i can fix it easily.

the biggest items i have less are the wheel sets. any suggestions on some good wheels around $100-150? since the blue turned out more silver, maybe ill get silver rims as opposed to the all black i planned for.

also, is there any trick to getting the brake lever on the handlebars? seems a little difficult, not sure how to get it on there.

What brake lever are you using?

Nagrom_ 10-09-12 08:41 AM

www.velomine.com for wheels.

Your bars are probably 26.0, and your lever clamp is probably 25.4.

Scrodzilla 10-09-12 08:43 AM

Cross levers typically come with 24.0, 26.0 or 31.8mm clamps. BMX/MTB levers are 22.2mm.

i'll have to look. got it at a bike festival so i'm not entirely sure. considering the cabling, lever and caliper were a total of $5, i figured it was worth a shot

ara35 10-09-12 08:50 AM

the wheels i was looking at were the [h=1]Velocity Deep V Black Fixed Gear Singlespeed Wheels[/h]any thoughts on tubes and tires that velomine offers?

ara35 10-09-12 10:18 AM

Panaracer Paselas are great and affordable

As far as tubes, just get something that fits.

If you're trying to keep costs low, you can use electrical tape for rim tape. I've done so effectively and it's easy to repair if you need to take it off.

Do you have a cog or lockring?

ara35 10-09-12 10:31 AM

any idea on what the tire size/ wheel size is for these wheels?

$75 for a set of tires?? that seems very pricey. and i have a cog, need a lockring i guess

EpicSchwinn 10-09-12 10:34 AM

700c by 25 is pretty medium. To generalize, narrower is faster and wider is smoother.

ara35 10-09-12 10:45 AM

i'll check them out. thank you for the help.

also, a small question, i got the sram s300 crank. can i run a 1/8" chain on this crank?

ara35 10-09-12 10:53 AM

do you need a cog and a lockring? if so, how do i know which lock ring is compatible?

If you're really cheap you can have JensonUSA pricematch and you still get free shipping, should come in right at $50.

EpicSchwinn 10-09-12 11:00 AM

1/8" chains work on any chainring or cog
3/32" works only on 3/32" gear

What kind of hubs are on the wheelset you're getting? That determines what lockring you can use.

$16 apiece at UC

I saw $75 for a set of Paselas and thought we were talking specifically about the TourGuard version.

ara35 10-09-12 11:11 AM

They're much more expensive and not as practical.

You can use a "regular" lockring on formula hubs. This will do http://www.velomine.com/index.php?ma...k4simh8b0bfp02
