Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Any body ever done ALC, CAR or any other ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles on a fixed gear? I found one post by someone who was going to do ALC2, but nothing about whether they finished. I'm doin ALC4 and really wanna do it on fixed. granted i've only been riding fixed for less than a week, but i charge it all around the greater los angeles area on my road bike, climb crazy hills, and ride till my legs are jello, keep up with racer rides through the santa monica mountains, so i'm kind of lookin for more challenge than riding it on my road bike. a guy i know did it on a bike he found in a bus station, with only a 53 chainring, and pretty small gears on the freewhel, so, i'm thinkin it's definitely possible fixed.

PS here's my ALC site

LL did the mother fixed, but then disappeared soon after. I think the Feds caught up to him or something. Hope his hat didn't injure him
