Agree with the above comments.

Just so you know what is going on (assuming no damage to your hub mentioned above):
If the cog is not properly tightened on install, it will tighten itself up more as you ride it. When this happens the lock ring is no longer tight against the hub, allowing for the cog to tighten and loosen when you accelerate and brake. Eventually this will cause your lock ring to come loose (it already was loose, but it will become more noticeable) and will ruin the threads on your hub for the lock ring. At that point the hub is only good for the freewheel side (assuming you have a flip/flop)

I was under the understanding that freewheels and fixed cogs go in the same threading. Is this not the case with all hubs?

you can put freewheels on fixed threads, but not the other way around.

If you ever have to buy hubs, get fixed/fixed.

Yeah that's exactly what i got on both of my fixed rear wheels. had no idea they made fixed/fw. I dont see the point of it haha.

Sheldon himself wondered the same thing.

Don't know yet if there is any damage. I agree with that, the cog is tightening and leaving the lock ring loose. hopefully there is no damage to the hub. It is a flip/flop hub. Would you agree that i should not be at fault? i did not install the cog and lock ring. they are both brand new out of the box on brand new rims. i have rode with them on maybe 3-4 times if that.

It takes all of 30 seconds to properly tighten a cog and lockring.

That would annoy me.

Crandrew 10-26-12 11:58 AM

its just the nature of Customer Service these days. Thats why when I find somebody who is good at what they do, I pay top dollar to keep coming back.

Seriously. I would take less than ten minutes to remove the cog/lockring, inspect the threads and reinstall everything the right way.

Because they ****ed up installing it the first time, I would have demanded they do it right in front of me. For free.

Dude... that really sucks. At a nearby shop, I brought in a wheel, a log and cockring and the guy did it while I picked my nose. He didn't even charge me and it wasn't even my personal LBS! There is something really wrong with your peeps.

they did what?? while you pick your...?? sure you went to the right shop?

I usually just do it myself. A FG doesn't need that much maintenance.

That means nothing. The old shop where I worked had a few conversions on the rack when I started that were so badly cobbled together, it was shameful.

fixedSprint 10-26-12 02:50 PM

Well if any body in chicago area knows a reputable LBS. Please let me know

hairnet 10-26-12 03:03 PM

Only because he works there. As a rule Performance is a terrible place for service. Also, not an LBS. That place is like the Wal-mart of the bicycle industry.
