i feel like i see a ton of fixies in wmsbrg too. seems to be quite a fad going through that neighborhood. fashion accessory for some?

nine 02-01-05 01:03 PM

speaking of williamsburg, what does everybody think of nyc bikes? i'm considering their wheelset and the people in there seemed nice. any opinions on their work?

I agree. Everyone rides fixed.

ch0mb0 02-01-05 11:48 PM

...but are they conversions that people had to dedicate work to build, or just a nice shiny ride plucked right out of the bikeshops?

(I hear you get extra credit if you "built it yourself!")

p.s. -down for Brooklyn rides too, be it Monstertrack or otherwise

iamjberube 02-02-05 07:51 AM

cool, we should definitely ride. weekends or weekdays better for everyone? earlier/later?

luggedwithlove 02-02-05 08:56 AM

I rode home to Corona Queens from Carroll Gardens one night, Drunk, in the Rain at 12am. It was my 2nd time in that neighborhood and my coworker had to guide me to Greenpoint, where I found my own way back. It was fun. We were drinking at some place called "Brooklyn Inn" I think.

b-tel, i know you and your friends are down for some riding too.

this sounds cool, I wouldn't think I could do the race, I like a mellow ride, I don't ride very fast in the city.

a lot of the bikes i'm seeing are almost painfully clean, especially in this crappy weather.

bklyn74 02-02-05 01:26 PM

well, the weather's great, but that means everyone's tossing their snow into the street which keeps them wonderfully slushy and dirty.

The ones I have seen are either conversions or track bikes

I live in next to prospect park ( Brooklyn Bike Mecca ). All types of riders in the park and less hectic than central park. Living near the park you get to all types of bike traffic coming through.

I'm being a complete sissy, right?

Jon Bless is a great friend of mine. A surfing and riding buddy. He sold his Bennoto last year and replaced it with a GORGEOUS original 1976 Paramount track bike. His Gitane has a sweet front basket on it these days. When not delivering or doing sound/production stuff, he rocks the party with classic dancehall, dub and reggae at Bembe in Williamsburg on Tuesday nights. Pop in, y'all!

I rarely see SS/F riders in Brooklyn...

i live & work by prospect/vanderbilt/gap and i've seen lots of fg/trk bikes around here. they've seem to become more prevalent over the last two years. but i guess everybody knows that. and yes, i'll probably be priced out of here soon.

evanyc 02-12-06 09:59 PM

nine - where in red hook and what kinda bike you ride?

i saw someone with a GT track bike in the Red Hook post office one day

not me - i ride an iro mark v and soon a new bright red cramerotti! i'm down on van brunt near the water and i've seen that guy with the gt before as well in the post office. if i remember he had kind of an unusual set up.

nightfly 02-13-06 01:04 PM

You gotta be kidding about not seeing fixed gears in Brooklyn, right?

I walked out of some sushi place on 5th the other night and the first 5 bikes I saw, either locked up or riding were all fixed. Coming out of Prospect Park from a run on Saturday morning, I saw a couple of guys all on fixed gears chilling by the farmer's market. I think the only place with a higher concentration of fixed gears than Brooklyn is the East Village/Lower East Side. Everyone I see there is on a fixed.

It's great.

rodny71 02-13-06 01:19 PM
