Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Chicago has much of the same - hipsters galore sporting the cuffed or cut off 3/4 pants. Frankly, I dig it half of the time. Though obviously I'm always on the bike more or less. But I do love wearing my pants cuffed with the tights underneath especially in the winter and snow - I friggin' hate getting salt stains and the bottoms of my pants wet. I hate having wet trou.

it's funny, i used to rock that look back when i thought i was a tough punk kid; hacked off trousers w/ thermals underneath.

now i'm wearing it again, only with tights instead of thermals.

anyone know where i can find the ones with the little flowers on 'em?

i LOVED those things

Funny! I've been doing the same thing since years ago. Punk/Hardcore kids wore kinda baggy khakis and rolled them up 3/4 or mid shin. Instead of having a flat cuff, it was better to have the rolled look. I guess in the summer it makes sense. I almost hate shorts, so I always wear dickies and just roll em if it gets hot. I've always thought it looked cool and it's always been functional.

I did it too back in the late 80s, how else you gonna show off your boots? comfier than tucking into the boots too, but up here they're rolling them to ankle level only, they're too long to begin with. Maybe it's a try at the same look adjusted for winter.

I can't hang with the shants, Got to roll the jeans up. Ha... weird, never thought of it as a fashion thing. I guess it's fashionable function, or is it, ****ional fashion?

rolled up/cuffed levis or fatigues with long-johns/thermals underneath is the way to roll in the winter. No cold, no wind chill, no drivetrain munchie problems. And it looks okay, too.

Bikes: What... all of them?!?

I do the whole "roll" thing, but my problem is that the pump still gets caught in my trouser leg.

Mmm, that sexy messenger roll looks soooo good with my office suit. Ah well. It annoys the dress code nazis, so its win-win.

On days when the mercury falls below 20, I wear windpants with hockey tape wrapped around the bottom half to stop the flapping. I am fashion.

Alright... dumb question.

What's a good source for manly 3/4 length pants/shants/shanks/manpris/whathaveyou?

I roll up my pant legs like I'm about to go dig for clams. The main fashion faux pas I make is always wearing my Pearl Izumi skull cap wherever I go, it looks pretty bad.

Prana makes a nice three quarter knicker called the Mantis. https://www.prana.com

Skitbraviking has a pair, they're good.

Basically you want to search for climbing/outdoor gear.
