upgrading bearings
So I recently bought a Stans No Tubes 340 rim along with spokes, and my friend at the LBS thew in a used Tom Ritchey hub that clearly needs new bearings. He orderd some Enduro abec 3 bearings. I've been looking into higher end bearings, what do you guys think?
|
I didn't know Ritchey made hubs. It's probably something generic rebranded.
As for the bearings, there's nothing wrong with them. |
What do you have in mind?
|
It's just a hub that came on a ritchey wheel set.
|
i had some ritchey branded hubs
im sure they were just rebrands of something more generic |

In all seriousness, why? Blinged out bearings? Get some ABEC 5 Ceramics. |

I wouldn't worry about better bearings until I had better (pretty much) everything else. If you already have them in hand just use 'em.

Because it doesn't really matter, it's not an upgrade if it doesn't actually change anything. Do you plan to do extremely focused events like time trials or triathlons? Even then it's debatable if they're a worthwhile upgrade for 99% of riders.

Seriously, dude. Spend your money on something else.
|
They'll save you a whole watt over 40Km.
bettah get on that! |
What would you recommend I purchase for a worthy upgrade?

I'm with you but you should get some ceramic bearings, they will make you faster for sure.

****, if I'm buying a meaningless upgrade, and just buying stuff for the sake of buying stuff, you better believe I'll be able to at least see the ****ing thing on my bike... "Yeah man, those bearings are ceramic, trust me." |

Wheels Clipless set-up Crankset Cheapest and easiest one is generally tires. It's easy to knock 200-400 grams from your wheel-set just by upgrading tires. |
and get better rolling resistance, plushier ride...

I would add saddle and.bars to that list.
|
Lets not forget that a lot of "better" low resistance bearings just have looser seals.
|
Not really an upgrade if you're still using clips/straps. You won't notice much difference over the All-City set you have now.
:/ |
Contact points are where you notice your money.
|
Darn, ok. What clipless pedals/shoes would you recommend for 40+ miles on the track bike.
