This is how the internet should work.

No it doesn't, but IIRC Miche only makes 1/8" cogs.

Except for the 3/32" cogs they make.

Clamp the ring in a vice and turn the wheel?

Yeah I was wondering what that was about.

Toki I've tried everything, I just ordered a cog to remove it with a chainwhip.

JonSC 01-02-13 03:13 AM

Finally got it removed. Happy new year everyone! :)

...now who wants to buy a 16t Miche cog + carrier?

europa 01-02-13 05:54 AM

Is this where you admit you were trying to turn it the wrong way :D

BTDT :bang:

JonSC 01-03-13 03:47 AM

I did with my lockring wrench, but then Nagrom kindly pointed me in the right direction. :)

Was extremely easy to get off with the chainwhip.

GENESTARWIND 01-03-13 04:47 AM

i still dont get why you didnt just use the miche cog system, im sure you could have swapped out those cogs for some miche from scrod?? maybe i dunno just a guess.

JonSC 01-03-13 04:50 AM

The cost for shipping would be a waste and people say there is an extremely small amount of play in the system, where I like everything on my bike to be completely solid. Scrod doesn't have the cogs either, he would probably have to special order them.

Plus the hassle it gave me from just trying to remove it pissed me off enough to not ever want to use the system. :crash:

So you're aware - it would have taken less time for you to ship the cogs you bought back here, have me special order Miche cogs and send them to you in NYC than the way you did it. Because I'm a nice guy sometimes, I even would have covered the return shipping.

Now you have a useless Miche cog and slightly damaged carrier on your hands.

OMG...this is so serious. The OP is now bankrupt for life and he also contributed unnecessarily to the depletion of iron. We are all ****ed.

Scrodzilla 01-03-13 10:36 AM

I wasn't saying it was the end of the world, just that there was a more practical, cost-effective and quicker way to go about it.

You - being the King of Practicality and Logic - should easily recognize this.

JonSC 01-03-13 03:50 PM

You realize, whether I used my method or yours, I would still end up with a useless Miche cog and slightly damaged carrier on my hands? :)

It probably would have taken less time, but I'm not in a rush and I didn't want to trouble you to order a useless Miche cog and I didn't think you would pay return shipping for a cog where the cost would be a large fraction of item itself.

I didn't go for the practical way to begin with because if I did I would have just used the system which I stated that I do not want to use.

Nagrom_ 01-03-13 04:35 PM

Still don't see how a pair of channel locks didn't do it.

Because I said it wouldn't.

As a general rule, avoid channel locks if possible.

Of course, but he didn't need the part, and it would have been an easier/instant solution.

I've used the system and never found this to be the case.

It gave you no hassle, you just didn't have the cog you needed.

GENESTARWIND 01-03-13 05:58 PM

i plan on using the miche cog carrier system on my next setup.

JonSC 01-03-13 09:04 PM

If you guys like the Miche cog system, then that is all fine and dandy but I personally don't want to use it. I'd rather use my new EAI cog that is one solid piece, rather than a two piece system just for the peace of mind.

I never said it is any better or worse, it is just personal preference. You guys need to relax.

Scrodzilla 01-03-13 09:44 PM

Why is this even still being discussed?

jimmytango 01-03-13 10:32 PM

Cuz we can't let things go here on BFSSFG.
