Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? I'm a talking about how slammed your seatpost is, not your bars.

It is a tight bend, braking is fine if not excellent. The Dual pivot Caliper and the lightweight of the complete bike make it so. I will probably replace this lever but it was all I had in a pinch.

If it was not a sprung seat my post would be higher, also the frame is a hair too big for me.

No, the frame is too big. And he's right about the mattress seat.

Yeah let's critique frame size on townies, where it really matters a whole lot.

Ugh don't remind me about the idiot that started an argument with me on ****** (he was the only one arguing) about how my Fuji doesn't fit because It doesn't have a "normal" amount of seat post showing. Nevermind the fact that it is just a commuter bike and I have done multi hour rides comfortably.

What do you mean? Insertion minimum = correct insertion amount nowadays.

I will take the smallest sized frame I can squeeze onto along with a 170mm stem & 500mm extra setback seatpost pweez.

Exactly, I am super comfortable on my bike and barely know its there when I ride. To me, comfort trumps the way it looks or meeting the industry norm. Who is to say that all other frames arent too small and they are showing way too much seat post?

As long as you're not putting your reproductive future in jeopardy, knock yourself out. IME, if the seats that low, the TT's uncomfortably close to the boys when you're standing over the frame.

I guess you don't have that issue.

That's all I was trying to say.

Nothing fancy
KHS Urban Soul, needed a new commuter and this fit the $$ I wanted to spend. Changed seatpost, saddle, stem, bar, pedals, front tire to get fender to fit, added fenders thats about it. Heavy, solid and what I need for rain, winter and locking up at night.

SS mtb. My Soul Cycle Hooligan had to be retired so I flipped all the parts onto the motobecane outcast, my cheap old bike island s/s mtb frame that has spent the last 5 years as my fixed gear bike. Was cheaper and easier to buy a new fixed gear and swap parts. Only new item is the race face Dh b/b. The crank on the bike was toast so I used my old cx crank. 36x18. She rides like a dream and makes the trails her b!tch.

Here's my cheap SS. Not finished yet, obviously, but I couldn't wait to give her a test run.

My 2 day old Aventón Mataro(first FG, riding it is TORTURE haha) on the streets of Metepec, México:

Just built up:

Some info: frame around 1700g bare, fork around 550g cut(WOW).

built with a few parts from my Trek District Belt Drive, Fijalajara straps(leather straps made in Guadalajara, México).

I tried to get it built ASAP so there's a few things I want to change. 48x16 is way too hard for me, it's impossible to skid, I couldn't find a brake in time and every time I hop on it I am terrified, haha. Getting a brake, 19 tooth cog and possibly a 16t freewheel while I get used to fixed.

I am liking FG, very zen, however it's extremely hard for a beginner that's used to destroying the streets riding SS. I want to try riding it a few months then try and go brakeless, the main reason that I wanted to try FG was for the beautiful, minimalist brakeless aesthetic.

Wow riding 48x16 for your first fg, and without brakes, must be terrifying (and pretty risky ).

Trying new setup, (almost) full-black...

still looking for a black 17-degree stem with 25,4mm/26mm clamp (I'm using Nitto RB-002 which has 26mm clamp)

The rain held off yesterday so I got to put in some real miles (30) on my newest acquisition, the State Bike Co Undefeated. I figured this will give me a good opportunity to post my initial thoughts on the bike. If you hate the brand you might as well stop reading now. Im posting this for anyone who IS curious about the quality. With that said, I made a few part swaps from how it comes stock. I went with a Thomson Elite Setback seat post and a Fizik Antares Vs saddle. I also put on some already wrapped Dimensions Anatomic Road handlebars. I will go with the stock FSA Omega Compact Drops im just waiting for my bar tape to come in. Lastly, I put on some Resist Nomad 700x28c gumwall tires. There is about a cm of clearance in the back, not quite fully slammed. Up front there is only a few mm of clearance between the tire and fork. Im going to switch to something else soon. It is so tight that if glass or a rock get stuck in the tire it could really mess up the fork.

Out of the box the bike was packed neatly and carefully, your standard packaging for any bike box. Cosmetically the bike had one tiny chip in the paint on the fork about 2 by 3 mm in size, it is not deep, just the paint. Seeing as I didnt buy this bike im perfectly fine with it. The bike came with front and rear brakes caliper, cables, and levers all in separate box not installed. The stock saddle is exactly shaped like a vintage Selle Italia Turbo and is actually really comfortable, I just prefer my Fizik, its the best fitting most comfortable saddle I have ever used. I either installed or took off and re-installed everything that needed lubed. their stock installation was correct and didnt find the weird forgot to tighten bolts like I have with other bikes.

The ride quality of this bike was surprising to be honest. 1985-1990 Cannondales are my thing (that period came with aluminum frames and Tange steel forks). This bike seems as stiff but substantially less harsh of a ride. This is probably do to a combination of things, like wider tires, a carbon fork, and less stiff rims. The stock State wheels are adequate thats all I can really say, they are heavy and a deep V style so they are stiff but I would easily assume they come in at over 2000 grams. My biggest issue is the drive train, it isnt whisper quiet like my other bikes. Just a slight ticking thats really annoying. If I tinker a lil im sure I can silence it. Its a KMC K710 I have no prior experience with this chain but it seems to be the cause of the noise. There is a very very small amount of toe overlap which I found surprising as well. Along with this handling is stable and not as twitchy as other bikes I have rode or own. This is more obvious when taking a closer look at the fork rake. As for sizing I didnt look closely at the geometry before getting this, thus I would have noticed the what seems short to me top tube. My size 59 has a 57cm top tube. I feel like I need a longer stem to stretch me out more. I feel a little tight even with the setback seat post. I put on a surly 16t cog I had, to make the gearing 48x16t which seems fine for my area. The last thing I will say is im absolute pleasantly surprised with this bike. Ill let you guys know more in the future. The cost is high for the complete, but I do feel the bike is actually of very high quality.
