your favorite chain?
ok, i just skimmed thru 20 pages of comment in this forum looking for chain recommendations, and all i found was this https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...ain#post774798
(if i missed a thread, mea culpa, and will someone point me at it?)
if i didn't miss the thread, bust with your favaorite chain, and why you like it.
i'm looking for something 3/32", sliver, and quiet, so if you know of something, share the love.

I'm running a wipperman connex (the $25 one) and love it. Put them on most of my rides.

The guys in the MTB forum swear by the SRAM PC69:

Izumi track chains are the best I've used. Seem to last. Never given me any reason to doubt their strength when skidding.
Their more expensive chains are NJS certified.

for cheapness but sturdy. go with kmc. in 3/32 810 and 610. but you can run an 1/8 chain no problem. I've done it on my track work bike. no matter what people say a 1/8 is not stronger than a 3/32 tho. you can read al the specs on https://home.earthlink.net/~kmcchain/english/ it even list the tensile strength of each chain. no diff for each pitch.
please replace your chain regularily. i've put off way too long ONCE and broken one.
toothpaste and brush $5 1-2months
kmc chain $10 ...... .

I like the kmc 710, with the tall, burly plates. A little more expensive, and heavier, but i've never dropped one of those chains. they apparently make a 3/32 version these days, but i haven't been able to find anyone selling it.

Bikes: a dozen or more at any given time. currently: pro concept pro, badd 24", hutch trickstar, looptail pk ripper, reynolds quad, 82 hutch pro racer, yamaha "a" model, matthews monoshock, and several more.
fwiw, here is a nice bit of straightforward info on kmc chains:

I've used multiple Wippermans and a SRAM, all 1/8" pitch. The Wippermans are super heavy duty and come with a master link, but are noisy. The SRAM is basic and quiet. No problems with either.

KMC,
cheap and they're plenty strong
by the way,
pitch is the distance between pins, not the width.
hence 1" (old track block chain) pitch and the failed shimano 10mm pitch
now the standard 1/2" pitch

I've been rockin' the KMC 810 "KOOL CHAIN" for a few months now and I love it.

I've used SRAM chains for years and have had great luck with them. I've used both PC 58 and PC 59. I get about 3000 miles out of the PC 59 and about 4000 with the PC 58 (9 speed vs. 7 and 8 speed).
I'm trying out a PC 58 on my singlespeed now but only have about 100 miles or so.
I get about 300 miles with a PC 58 on my mountain bike. It's on chain number 20 or so and they all wear consistently the same.
