I just dont get it...this thread or these horrible bikes people are buying.

Youd be better off buying a fixed/free rear wheel from velomine at 75 or a wheelset up to 125 and a cheap chain and cog and an old steel frame.

quoting velomine, formula steel cog = 19, formula lockring = 7, chain 3/32 = 13 or 1/8th = 8.

Even the cheaper wheelsets say "handbuilt" in the description so you shouldnt have to worry about them.
plus if you ask they will space the wheelset accordingly no extra charge and install the cog/lock ring. You will still need to have the cog tightened and lockring tightened "from experience".

Only thing you have to do is use the outer ring on the inside maybe or use the smaller ring and use a GI calc to find out what cog you need and if you dont have the tools have a shop tighten your cog/lockring. They might even do it for free if you buy some bar tape.

Probably need a manufacturers and sellers association to test and guarantee safety on bikes foreign and domestic. Sellers would get a discount on their liability insurance by belonging. Just sayin.

Since this thread's back, I'll provide an update on what's been going on with my bike.

It's still alive 2 months later, and not doing to shabby for a target bike. I swapped the crankset for some S300's, and that made the bike feel a lot better overall. Stem was swapped too, and this, despite what it looks like, is actually a lot more comfortable. Rear wheel was replaced as well, switching the stock wheel for an Alexrims S480, which is a double wall rim and is just as heavy as the stock single wall.



I've been riding brakeless for 4 months and I'm not dead yet. That being said, out of all the bikes to go brakeless on, this one's among shabby hobo bikes you find on craigslist for $25. Or at least with that rear hub and crankset.

You are very right. The only 'Target' pieces on this bike that are left are the frame, fork and headset. That being said, I've been looking at getting a different frame for about a month, but don't have the money to buy it. Anyone want to buy this frame? I'll even keep all the stickers on for you.

Same reaction I had. Saw stamped steel brakes and boat anchor bottom bracket and passed on it. I thought sure, I could replace what needs to be replaced, but then I just have a frame, and a kind of iffy one at that. So I took the money and bought a bike used.

I see them (and the Walmart one) in the wild ALL OVER THE PLACE here. Like seriously I probably see someone on the Target one at least once a day, the Thruster less often which is not surprising because there aren't many Walmarts in Chicago proper. But my Target doesn't have it at any price, let alone on sale. Not that I'd buy it but still.

The best was when I saw two bros walking their bikes on the lake front path, one with a Target bike and one with the Walmart one. Not sure why they weren't riding them but it was a funny moment.

Pretty much. Like the epitome of Chinese build quality. Although I think some of the shoddiness might be in the assembly.

After seeing it in the store, I saw a guy riding one the other day and thought if he didn't do something to tune it or tighten everything down, which if he was ridding that hideous bike as is he probably didn't, it was an accident waiting to happen.
