There are so many confusing things about that photo, and the bike is only like three of them.

I posted a comment on a bike photo, pointed out no foot retention, wonky bar angle, lack of tape on half the bar and no lock and dudes started freaking out so I started trolling them out of boredom because I hate Facebook and the majority of riders on fixed bikes are hipster kids/teens.

The internet is a wonderful horrible place.

Is that an inner tube wrapped around half the handlebars?

No, it's only wrapped around one bar.

Well, i know it's only wrapped around one side, but its so bulky in spots. I don't know how you could get one length of bar tape, meant for one side, to be so doubled up and bulky, and still make it from the stem to the end of the bar.

That Leader 722 up there spawned a search that lead me to the following blog post:

Bike of the Month : Leader Bikes 722 Heritage Edition ?The Drainage

Highlights include:

"...One thought is that a bike shouldn’t be over $1200. Most people can buy a car for that price..."

"The faux lugged chrome fork makes the bike feel vintage but with modern technology. You really don’t see real lugged forks on bikes anymore because it is an old and expensive process. Making it look lugged like this is a nice design feature to do."

"I used to ride to work but I got a new job that's 18 miles away and that's too far for a fixed/single speed."

He's got a point here.

Sometimes it kills me at how awful peoples ideas of what colors look good on a bike. I mean, yeah we can all say something about parts, components etc, but most "fixies" you see on craigslist for sale, are just so ****ing hideous.

Unkle Rico 01-12-15 01:16 PM

I guess some people arent as gifted at the concept of "style" as you are good sir!

I agree though, that bike is awful.

I suppose. There's "not gifted" and there's just plain ugly though.

Unkle Rico 01-12-15 01:22 PM

....and this bike is the latter

You hit the choicest quotes right there. Now where do I go for my $1200 car?

I've actually had two cars that would only just pass $1200 if you combined their prices. A $550 1988 Toyota Tercel that got totaled in a collision with a Ford F150 (dude ran a light), and a 1989 Ford Tempo that I got for $700 of the $950 settlement from the Tercel. I don't miss either of those. (their combined mileage would've been pretty close to 400k)

That said, when my current 17 year old Miata finally kicks off I expect to spend a tad more than $1200 replacing it.

murrellington 01-12-15 10:48 PM

My 1991 Honda Accord can't be worth more than $1,200. And I just this week finished buying the parts for my new bike which cost more than $1,200. Expensive cars are over rated.

Mumonkan 01-13-15 07:57 AM

****, who wants a 2000 ford focus sony edition? 83k miles. ill sell it to you for 1200 right now

You're better off keeping that car. Champion of reliability.
Protip: use a club if you haven't already; the key cylinders to the ignition are one of the first things that wear out on those and we all know another country that is conveniently located right next to us that loves them as well that's not canada.
