It seems that these are pretty good locks due to their length, strength, and its able to fold.

Does anyone own these?

Mark my words. Do not get those. They are easily defeated at the folding joints/ pivots, which the lock contains a lot of. You are only paying for easy of transport. These are the worst locks ABUS makes as far as security goes, right after their cable locks.

Just get a U - lock. It is tried and proven time and time again.

Even as a mini, the NY fahgettaboudit is not pocketable. In addition to being heavier, it's both longer and wider. It's namesake follows along with your ability to tote it around in your jean pocket.

Can you still pick these locks with a bic pen or is that a thing of the past?

GENESTARWIND 04-04-13 05:22 AM

I use the onguard mini ulock that comes with cable.

Yes! (Not yes as in yes you can pick them with a Bic pen, but yes as in I'm glad someone mentioned something) I haven't used Kryptonite because I cannot get out my head 15 years ago when I was a young(er) pip it was demonstrated to me how easy it was to bust u-locks with a pen. I'm sure they're perfectly safe now.

they also had a huge well run recall in which they replaced all those locks free of charge. i am still rockin the replacement locks i got for my two bic-able locks. didn't even have to pay postage to get them replaced.

i don't know how much money they lost with that one but they sure did replace every lock i ever heard of that got sent back. i'd never hesitate to buy another kryptonite product...

Well thats good to hear. I only mentioned it because I bought a New York lock, and then decided to google kryptonite only to find tons of videos of their locks being picked. Feel a little better now.

Make sure your locks have recessed key holes, cause its a lot easier to pick them then it is to cut them.

I have an Onguard Bulldog Mini and a 3' NY Lock and Chain with a RE Load sleeve, Which I carry depends both on where I am going and what time of year it is

sadly i dont currently have a lock, but i keep my bike inside at work and when i go somewhere which isnt often its either right at the door where my eye is on it aka convenient store or its walked inside where i can keep an eye on it.

i recently had a bike stolen while locked up with cameras and security so im hesistant to lock it up. i do need to buy one but will i use it? id rather just keep it inside wherever i am at. i know i have to get one though.

Realistically it sounds like you would only need a lock for casual use as the bike is safely stored at both work and home. I'd still feel twitchy about leaving it unlocked while going into a store, even when I can see it though, but that's me. I'd suggest leaving a lock at home/office that you can grab when your plans change.

i use a quick release front wheel, and put it next to my rear wheel. this lock goes through both wheels, my seat tube, and about a pbr-can-sized object. i stick it in my belt above my lef asscheek. works well. this method might not work if you have a thick seat tube or if your rear wheel is too far away from your seat tube, however. also i cant speak for how comfortable wearing it like that it is on low-rise pants though, there might be some 'saddle interference'
also i immediately took that silver part off.
