Carbon Fiber Conversion?

Any of you guys ever built a fixed gear out of a carbon road frame? Saw a Nashbar one on sale and was thinking it would make a really nice conversion. Would need something like an ENO hub for the vertical drop outs which would negate some of the weight savings but still probably be super light.

Been done. Somebody did it to a Litespeed.

Why not just get a china carbon track frame? Are you actually racing?

nightfly 03-01-13 04:53 PM

Not racing just idly wondering as I was flipping through the Nashbar catalog.

Eccentric BB for bb30 would be the way to go. Only cost-effective if you already had the frame, otherwise: tarck frame.

I don't have experience with either, but why not get one of the chinacarbon track frames from eBay or one from Planet X?

Magic ratio combo of 21/52 + a half-link chain segment. A new chain is too tight; this will be where my old chains go...

I have a CF road bike frame, that I'm building an ENO wheel for, to use as a fixed/SS bike. Most of the parts being used are just sitting in my spare parts bin, so why not put them to good use?

Spending cash to buy new parts to make a conversion is not smart at all.

If you are going to do that, why not just buy a carbon track frame?

It really doesn't make sense to buy a carbon road bike plus ENO and convert it into a track frame. Just buy a track frame.

There are plenty of budget carbon track frames on the market.

This Planet X is $750 (buy frame + fork separately)

...and you can probably find Ebay carbon track bikes for even less.

A true track frame isn't a good choice for a FG road bike.

How are you planning on using the bike?

Jaytron 03-01-13 08:10 PM

Not racing he said, soo...

That only means that the OP will not be using it on the track. Knowing more about how the OP intends to use the bike makes a difference.

I've done centuries on a FG bike, and also used another as JRA/beater bike.

My Colnago Pista has only seen the streets a few times. I built it for the velodrome only.
