the difference between fixie and track bike

So, I'm often being harassed by other cyclists for riding a "fixie". I'm wondering what you guys think of the nickname. I often tell people to call it a track bike, as that's what it is.

Do you guys find it as insulting as I do? How do you guys respond to "nice fixie, bro.".

Nagrom_ 03-05-13 05:13 PM

You're so damn annoying bro.

Has your bike ever been near a track, let alone on one? No? It's a fixed gear, not a track bike.

God damn that's what everyone says. It doesn't ****ing matter. A mountain bike is a mountain bike, even if it's only ridden on the road. Now get off my spoon.

Your post.

Ignore them or drop them. they probably get a kick out of you trying to defend your bike

That's true... I just wish they'd shut up.

Who cares? Ride jah bike.

seau grateau 03-05-13 05:26 PM

Just looked at your Pedalroom. That's a fixie.

seau grateau 03-05-13 05:26 PM

Track bikes don't have Aerospokes.

iTripped 03-05-13 05:39 PM

A mountain bike that doesn't ride trail is just a commuter. Why would you call it a 'track bike' if it never sees the track? For what it's worth, there is absolutely nothing wrong with riding a 'fixie.' Embrace it dude - it's what it is.

Mumonkan 03-05-13 05:42 PM

whats the difference between a bike and a bicycle?

its just a stupid nickname given to bikes with a fixed drivetrain.

He does because he knows it is just a fixie. It will probably never see a track but he wants to think it will and that he would be good at it because sometimes he goes fast on his way to school.

It's a bike, OP, just ride it. If you're that self conscious about what people think, you have the wrong hobby.

caloso 03-05-13 05:58 PM

Meh. If it is a bike built for track racing which you have actually raced on a track, then sure.

My sscx bike is currently in a fixed mode because I enjoy riding it on the road that way. I certainly would never call it a track bike, but it is a fixed gear.

You won't get far in any hobby being that way.

Jesus calm down. And Seau, read my pedal room, I don't have those wheels anymore. Those photos are outdated.

And to anyone who says my bike won't touch a track - **** you. Who cares if it touches a track. I actually have a ride planned to go to NH and ride their velodrome this summer.

Edit- New photo is up. Get off my spoon.

Nagrom_ 03-05-13 06:17 PM

uh oh, watch out. track bike.

Hey, you asked us for our opinions and you got them. It's likely just about all of us have have received the same remarks as you have so don't get all emotionally hung up about it.
