Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Needing help on deciding what Singlespeed/Fixed to go with.

I plan on getting a singlespeed/fixed gear bike and it will be my first experience of the kind. I intend on getting the bike from bikesdirect. I have narrowed it down to a few choices. There is the Motobecane Messenger, Mercier Kilo, FantomCross Uno, and The (Windsor) Hour. From this site these seem to be the ones I'm caught up in as my price range for this new bike is somewhere from 300-450. Anyone have any input on any of these models?

You've narrowed it down to four good picks, there isn't a wrong choice there. The FantomCross is the oddball in your line-up as it's a single speed cyclocross frame with room for fenders.

I ride one of these . . . Beat the hell out of it daily, rain, sleet, snow and all other stuff.
Ok, people will feel obligated to say it sucks, but for 125.00 its the deal of the week

Here is mine . . .

What kind of riding are you going to do?
Where do you live?

Do you know anyone who has any of those bikes so you could test ride one?
