Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

single speed syndrome? ;)

so i ve been using my newly converted cube road bike for 3 weeks now, man i m happy with it!! i never thought ss would be so fun, i thought that it would be hard with hills etc, i was wrong, as long as you find the right ratio that fits your needs. mine is 39/16 , here in malta is a bit hilly and windy. now the thing is this, everytime i ride my other geared bikes i am feeling them a bit strange and heavy, ok my 29 er in a steel onone, and the other one is a tourer i use for bad weather etc.... is this normal?, i mean, i love my other bikes but this ss gives me a huge grin everytime i ride it, working out is another thing i m liking also... my question is , do you people have geared bikes? or once you get hooked on singlespeed there s no turning back?

thanks

david

I have geared bikes and a fixed gear, but I like riding my single speed best of all. It's easier to use in traffic, too. I'll still ride the geared bikes in super windy days and at other times, too.

Doesn't have to be one or the other.

Honestly, after a long time of riding fixed exclusively, I can't get enough of my geared bike.

It happens. Eventually, if you switch back and forth with some frequency, you will simply get used to how each bike feels and what is normal for that bike, and it won't be as much of a shock to your system.

I have many bikes, why limit yourself to just one kind?!

I enjoy riding my fixed gear more than my road bike, but I love them both. Each one of my bikes serve a different purpose so I gotta have them all.

Singlespeed is great, but you'll turn back when your knees start to fail.
