Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Bikes: Fixed Gear 79 Schwinn Sprint

Ok after feeling bad after reading the how long trackstanding thread I'm going to make others feel bad in saying it took me exactly forty seven seconds to get used to riding fixed. I always had it in my mind that I had to keep pedaling and only tried to coast twice but quickly realized wait, that was on my old bike, this rocks!

Yeah, my commuter has a street rack.

He may have meant to say "sweet rack." I'm not sure.

How long before I get used to it? I am sure jumping from fixed to non fixed makes it harder but I can't see giving up either bike.
It took me about 10-15 minutes on my first ride. We all get reminded every now and then.
I've nearly had a wreck after switching back to my roadie when I tried to skid to a stop and
kept on going. I ride almost exclusively fixed now.
