I was wondering, as I was using my derailleur as a tensioner for my new SS convert, if I could take off the upper jockey wheel and still be good. This would lessen the friction of the whole system, and allow me to take out more chain, but I want to make sure it's all good.

Bikes: Ritchey P-series prototype, Diamondback, Nishiki Triathelon Pro.
I saw a pic of someone using a larger cog (not mounted) in the chain close to the rear gear. Looked very cool, said it never fell out?
It just rolled with the upper and lower teeth.

hey, it works, i know many people that have done this, I can find pictures of it too if you want me too, but they didnt do it the way you said, they take out the lower one, and a few of them cut off the cages and just had the one jockeywheel

Another pic and thread with the same info for you.

It is possible but in my case I was using a sora der. that had some metal tabs on the cage that got in the way of the chain so I still use both jockey wheels.
