Bikes: 2 fixies, 1 road, 29er in the works.

Need some web help.

A good guy at big cooperate LBS chain offered me a deal. He'd match any web price on a Chris King Headset, and give me another discount so as to cover installation.

I've been looking

And looking

and looking

(found my keys, YEAH!)

and found nothing good on the internet price wise.

Does anyone know of a web site that has good prices. Realiability can be dammed.

OH, no ebay though.. Ebay is off limits.

And the company has to exist.. no web pages made by funny friends.

Well, how cheap do you want it to be? I've never found a Chris King cheaper than 100 - 110. There's also a difference between threaded and threadless.

Yeah, uh, details.. right duh. Sorry. I'm slow, and that's on a good day.

Threadless...

How cheap? Well, free to start.

Really, just what is lowest out there. His store charges MSRP.. plus. I'm not looking to gouge, just to help stretch a dollar. 100 beats what they charge.

king's stuff seems to be pretty price-protected... i never see much variation in price. must be the popularity.

Ya, tell me about it. I worked in a bike shop in the late '90s and the assistant manager there bought a King headset back in '98 (I think) and even with his employee discount he still paid at least $80, maybe more, I can't remember exactly.

William, King really protects their pricing. It can be hard to find a "deal" on line. That may be why your local guy said he would price match.

too bad you're not looking for threaded: https://www.performancebike.com/shop/...2&SRCCODE=2108

still, good deal for the rest of us. consider it an almost-on-topic PSA.

Maybee. He had some humour for the Thylacine. Told me I would have to get left hand sided cranks since it's an australian frame.

I bought that one for about 5 minutes.

Well, if I've gotta pay full price, then so be it.

Best so far is 119.00

If you check absntr's link to qbike there are definitely a couple out there for under 110.

Oh, yes, for the headsets any way. Their hubs are so high, they are really hard to justify. Salt and pepper shakers work pretty good.

Bikes: Surly CrossCheck

Chris King is the best headset money can buy. Just like Phil Wood is the best hub money can buy. Creme de la creme.

ABSTNR, I love you. 109 works from qbike.

All props, adult beverages, etc.

Hit up 165, I'll pay him when he comes out to SD.

William,

I'm late, but I think this is worth mentioning:

https://www.bestwebbuys.com/bikes/index.html

It's a search engine for the bigger online bicycle retailers. It also shows prices on King headsets pretty consistent all over.

I believe they are. I want one bad - almost got one from Marcus at Yojimbo's but I really couldn't turn down a brand new black FSA Orbit X for $20. The money saved is going towards the new wheelset.

When my old shop started carrying King headsets, we practically had to send in a urine sample. My coworker pen them a smarmy letter about how they had to offer us the same proof of legitimacy and they came though admirably. Everything made in the US, they recycle, and some other stuff, you can probably just read the press release... but I was impressed. I've never owned one of their HSs but they seem to have a bulletproof company.

Yeah. Thylacine has been able to get an unbelievable on all
the components in my build kit...except Chris King. I bet
we could get him to go on a rant. So I'm going for the
FSA's.

As far as people to work for, they seem to be one of the best in the industry.
