Saw the two new Mission Workshop jackets in SF today. Very pretty. Not really something you'd want to wear on a bike, which is interesting.

I didn't grab pictures, but they told me they'd retail at $700 and $900. The former is a jacket (like nice dinner jacket), but made with tech-y fabric. Latter is a longer Eiger with less pockets.

Hopefully this wasn't in a press release or anything (or else I completely missed it!).

I'd rather ride an awesome bike for that kind of money and at that point, getting soaked is a moot point.

Their stuff is super pricey.. but with that being said, i really really want one of those waxed canvas bags!!

Flight got pointlessly delayed for six hours after I had got on the train to the airport, so I got off and went to velocult instead to waste some time and get drunk.

I can finally finish my FTP -- went to the LBS and had my crown race swapped over to my new fork (Thanks Scrod!) and had a new star nut installed.. They didnt charge me anything but I gave them $10 anyways :thumb:

today i selected parts to build myself a 4 tb RAID 10 NAS box for my house

Went for a ~80min mtb ride with a coworker at lunch today. It was very nice out: mid 60's, mildy overcast (not sunny), little to no wind; it was very quiet and peaceful.

I felt really strong over the punchy/sprinty hills and sections that every mtb ride has for me. Good signs.

Oh, and I only crashed once!

Tmrrw: Group ride ride, should net 3.5hrs. Will sit in and take it easy for most of it as I plan on racing Sunday, weather permitted.

Sunday: First race of the year! (Ice Breaker Crit, Ontario, Cat3). However it may rain, so I've decided that if the %precip is >or= 40 than I'll stay at home and train instead.

A jacket so expensive that you can't afford dinner.
You know it's gotta be one good jacket when you're financially limited to 2 meals a day because you bought it.

i moved to a server admin role at work about a year ago and were super redundant with backups and everything is networked on the LAN so i can access it on any machine, most of my day is spent mapping drives and databases to faculty machines on a big college campus.
it got me thinking "my backup consists of randomly plugging in a usb drive and letting time machine do its thing, and a slew of other external drives for my music/movie/download data, it would be a lot better if it was always connected on my network and more centralized/redundant plus id be able to access it anywhere from an ftp/browser"

im building mine but there are plenty of off the shelf options (or plenty cheaper) at the same pricepoint (~$700) if you dont want to tinker around with it, drobo makes a good prebuilt nas with plenty of options

Might wanna consider keeping your mission critical backups offline, unless you're supremely confident with your protection from Cryptolocker etc.

Yeah right, like that happened. Took both sprints, one of two climbs, did lots of work on the front. There's this thing called patience and restraint, apparently they fly out the window when I'm riding with a group. I'll def. be carrying some fatigue/soreness into tomorrow.

I feel good though! So who cares.

New update on my terrible airline voyage. They lost my bike in transit so now I'm stuck with no bike until who knows when. They claim they will reimburse me but I'm sure that will take months for the payment to come through.

Luckily I just took a picture of it right before I packed it to post in the ssfg2015 thread so I've at least got that on my side. I plan on hitting them for everything +labor and hopefully flight reimbursement.

50voltphantom 01-10-15 02:35 PM

Installed my RD2's and BB. Took maybe an hour without the benefit of a workstand. Most involved bike repair I've done in 15+years. Feels good.

Ouch that sucks!
I wouldn't be sweating the fact that it could be lost forever in the void of space; airlines usually are able to locate it and have a porter who will contact you via the number you left on the claim form and deliver it to your address you're at in a day or two.

If anything your bike probably got left behind at security inspection because of the TSA dicking around it.

A phone call afterwards would usually help if you demand satisfaction.

I moved an inch closer on my first SS project. The wheels have Mavic hubs and the rear axle is threaded one end only. I flipped the axle, then redished and trued the wheel - hoping this gets me close. Sill waiting for the SS freewheel to arrive at which time I'll know if this is a go or no-go. Making it fixed is definitely an option as the threaded portion of the hub is in perfect alignment with the chainring. Just not sure that I'm ready for a fixed gear.

im not worried, i dont keep anything on my machines that have sensitive information, honestly the thing i care most about is my 300gb music collection which is backed up 2x over outside of the machine
ive lost 100+ gbs worth of music before and the worst part is the stuff you didnt even know you lost cuz its just so vast and sparingly accessed, but then theres that day where its like oh i want this! and its gone in the abyss

i plan on encrypting the whole schpeil anywho and maybe creating an active directory domain within the house that it sits behind
