Today, I rode out on the roads for the first time since my accident. On June 4th, I crashed going over 40mph down hill. The frame is steel and came out fine. I, however, dislocated my hip by an inch, broke four vertebrae, and broke my clavicle, which is mostly metal now. I've been building strength and confidence on the trainer but have been wanting to get back out on the roads. It was a short ride as my hip is still very weak, but it felt amazing to be back on the bike!

Went up Mt. Hamilton with a friend today. Took it pretty slow because we were going at his pace, but we added some other climbs to get 6000+ ft elevation gain. Pretty good day.

Edit: Also washed my bike Wednesday because it looked like this:

My bike looks like this constantly since I've been riding gravel training for a race.

I used a bucket and sponge with simple green, couple of brushes to get some of the more stubborn stuff out.

Re: Campy, I really really like it. The thumb shifting took a little bit to get used to, but I really enjoy it now. I can shift up on the tops with my pinky haha. The ergonomics are perfect for the way I hold the shifters when I'm going harder for an extended period of time.

Also got the lake shoes and a bunch of socks in the mail. It's been a pretty good day.

yeah after putting the campy shifters on my trek i wont use anything else, i love the thumb shifter and the size/ergos are perfect for my hands

im planning up a more aggressive carpet fibre roadie with chorus, you cant dump gears with the thumb shifter on anything lower than chorus (only 1 at a time), it would be perfect with my riding style

right side thumb upshifts cassette, left thumbie downshifts chainring

essentially, whichever way youre pushing a lever is the direction the chain is moving

Working some extra hours on a special project from my manager. Getting ready to ride in to work, sitting here reading the forum, munching on a Belvita bar. It's foggy and humid out. Not looking forward to the sweat fest that I am about to embark on.

tubeless valves came, so ive begun the saga of tubeless-ing the surly. i also continue to make dogturd patches out of random **** like chunks of old tube

some bubbles around the bead which i attribute to neither the rim or tube being official tubeless, initial impressions still look promising

Someone at my college decided to make a riding group which is cool.

First serious ride is a 52 mi w/3800 ft of climbing (Mt. Hood). So it might be a bit too serious for me lol. The central valley has not prepared me for this.

That's not terrible. Just pace yourself as you're going up. Don't try to keep up with your friends if you are gonna blow up and die. Better to have them wait for a little bit that blowing up and having to turn around.

Today, I fell for the first time when I unhook my pedal and my right leg is ouchy. Gladly, bike didn't get a boo boo.

They taking the train out to Gresham them going up to Govy? If so, that isn't too bad of a ride, just an eternal uphill at a moderate gradient.

No trains, I think we'd be leaving from the southeast. I'm not worried about the distance just the eternal uphill (nice wording) in the last 20 miles or so.

Honestly I'm sure I'll be fine, I simply have a tendency to overthink stuff like this and share it with the world.

Rode 10 miles, 44/16 gears. Felt good just to get out there in-between the storms.
