Those are Sportcrafter Overdrive Pro rollers.

The rear drum with the red end cap has magnets inside which move as speed increases. This increases resistance progressively. It is pretty realistic and it is difficult to get them past 30 MPH with my road bike. Higher intensity intervals are totally doable with this drum. Engineers might enjoy the video below.


I also have a large free spinning "High inertia" drum for aerobic spinning and high cadence workouts. This is what I use for the fixed gear bike.

Great customer service. One of the drums was damaged when delivered. I was a knee-jerk, called the company and blamed quality control for allowing a faulty drum to be manufactured and shipped, blah blah, etc. The president of the company contacted me and based on the way it was broken explained that that the drum had taken a hit on the end cap during shipment, that there is no way they would have manufactured or shipped one that way. He shipped a new drum on the spot.

Lifetime warranty except for the belt. Made in Murica.

Nice! I like the progressive resistance idea though I'm not sure how that magnet moving changes the resistance. One day I'll have to switch to rollers.

I would just ride a manual trainer then. If your trainer always needs power, that sucks, having the ability to just ride it manually even just to spin the legs for a short bit is important. Zwift does look like a ton of fun and of course if you are training for something having all your data is handy but back in the days of yore when Eddy was racking up 525 career victories, there weren't smart trainers.

The trainer doesn't need power. It's a regular magnetic unit. The only issue was not being able to see :thumb: Zwift is a lot of fun too. Wahoo fitness is based out of Atlanta, and gave a demonstration of zwift with their sensors a few months ago. It was very similar to riding a regular bike, since the resistance unit applies more resistance as you ride up a hill, and when you get to the top of the hill, it opens up, and you go flying down the hill at a fast cadence.

I'm actually looking forward to smart rollers. There are a few out there already.

Elite makes an ANT+ E-Motion roller which can be used with Zwift but the reviews claim that the resistance is a little choppy.The InsideRide E-Motion with ANT+ smart resistance unit is reviewed very well but the price is as high as the most expensive smart trainers.Neither are compelling enough to make me want to join Zwift. The E-Motion rollers are a cool idea though.

29° F and 2 inches of snow. I rode my fat bike outside for 7 miles and did a bit of single track outside my complex. My hats off to all the discussion of trainers and what you use for rollers. I think I would rather be outside actually riding.

See? Unless on the rollers, go for it in the dark. It could be kinda fun. Sure lights and Zwift are going to be funner power loss shouldn't be a loss of fun and indoor cycling. Put on a headlamp or something.

I'd rather be outside too but it is nice to have options for when it is 38° and raining or just don't have the time.

1.5 hour company wide conference call? No problem. Just put the Plantronics in my ear and start pedaling.

I picked up a sweet old Klein (pre-Trek) for free. It has hand built wheels with old Nukeproof Ti hubs Archival Reviews of Nuke Proof Bike Hubs - the Buyer's Guide, 2015 (non-freewheel), XT front derailleur (early 90s M-735) and a functional American Classic seatpost. The old RST fork is shot but probably wasn't original but finding a decently priced 1" threaded 26" suspension fork is going to be somewhat hard. The rear derailleur is some hideous modern Acera jobber but luckily I have an old long cage M-735 one laying about which is in decent enough condition. The shift cables need replacing for sure and the brake lining is not much better so why not new cables and housing/liner all around. The cassette looks new and chain probably is newish but overly lubed. The pads are cracked at the rear and the front are a bit hard (but XT)

Overall it is not bad for a free bike especially a cool old Klein. I have always kind of wanted one and now I have one and rode it briefly. Some new parts and a little elbow grease and I will have a sweet vintage bike in the stable

today i did 41 miles of gravel on the space horse.

Today.. The Mrs. and I are "recovering" from a 5,000 mile road trip.. Colorado to Cali -->Cali to Oregon --> Oregon to Idaho --> Idaho to Wyoming --> Wyoming to home.

I haven't ridden a bike in about 3 weeks and I got fat.
