Today I am thankful for the help on this forum, specifically from @TimothyH - sir, you are greatly appreciated.

Thank you for taking a moment to say so.

So many people tear each other down, especially men, when we should be building each other up.

Pay it forward my friend.

Can't wait for the saddle for my cross bike arrive so I can post new pics here. New wheels, cranks, pedals too.

Today I rode* in the rain** and felt like such a badass. Also my new tires arrived and it feels so good to be off 23s.

* 3 miles round trip to the grocery store
** light drizzle

After a while riding in the rain, it doesn't matter if you get wet. You are already soaked, can't get any wetter lol. Got stuck in a freak summer rainstorm once on the way home from a ride. Sprinted to beat the storm, and eventually it was a torrential downpour. Stopped for a red light and hung out. Got the crazy look from the lady next to me. lol.

Yeah, I used to have to do it a lot. As long as it's not cold rain, it isn't so bad.

TimothyH 01-19-18 08:16 PM

Agree about the rain.

I can't remember having as much fun on a bike as I did commuting home in summer thunderstorms. Maybe this past summer when I bombed an 8 mile, 2400 ft gravel descent in the pouring rain.

Rain does something psychologically, just makes one throw caution to the wind and go all out. I've tried to replicate it in the dry but it is impossible.

It was 70 today in Denver. Went on a ride on my Crockett which is bright pink and I love it. Below is a conversation i had with a Mtn biker on a local trail. He was stopped and I rode past.

Dude: Wow a pink bike, I love it!
Me: Thanks! (rode on past)
Dude: My 13 year old daughter has a pink bike!

Now you have to race her.

LesterOfPuppets 01-19-18 11:39 PM

Harsh!

Speaking of pink bikes...

After riding it on actual trails I've decided the 34x16 on 27.5 is too tall on my pink bike, which I pretty much knew from barely getting by on 34x17 on 26". Dropped an 18 on and gonna do more testing Sunday. If it's good, I'm gonna have to get a wide cog, so I don't chew up the freehub body.

Tempted to get another one of these in size 16 to set up for trail riding (lighter cranks, tires) and reserve this one up for dirt jumping.

25 mile FG night ride today. Been doing more fixed road rides lately, partially because it's fun as hell, but also partially because I'm just procrastinating on cleaning my road bike.

Not quite today, but Saturday:
Took delivery on a 57cm C-T Levant NJS frame. Has the typical top tube dent but otherwise damage free, aside from fading on one side of the decals from sitting somewhere in the sun. Was miscategorized as a road bike on Yahoo auction, so I got it for only 10,000 yen (less than 100usd).
Later that night attended the first alleycat of the year. 43 people turned up, which is pretty damn good for my city.

Carcosa 01-21-18 06:06 PM

Today I took down the Christmas tree.

Yesterday I watched a bunch of MTB videos even though I don't have one. Being injured is boring.

This one got me all sweaty and anxious just watching.

That's a cool bike, where did you find it?

Weighed my Handsome with the new wheels, cranks, and pedals installed. Scale says it's 1lb lighter even with a POS place-holder saddle in lieu of the San Marco that's still on the way.

Yeah, that vid is pretty good. Nothing like the feeling of conquering a drop-in/descent that you chickened out on the first couple attempts.

A skill at the top of my list to work on before next cross season.

This was a highlight of my cross season. Started by conquering my fear of a water-bar stepped descent at my local MTB trail. Next I descended Mt. Krumpit at Jingle Cross whilst on staying my bike (something I failed to do last season). Finally I rode the slippery leaf-covered drop at the MN CX State champs race (passed someone walking it each lap). I can be fairly timid so it felt good to not have walked anything this year.

The skill at the top of my list for 2018 is bunny-hopping. Not barriers necessarily, but just being able to clear a 6" curb confidently the way I did as a teenager. I came across the need to do this twice last season.

Randombikeparts.com. There's a 10% off code that drops when their chat is offline, which takes 'em down to $272 shipped if you can ride med or sm.

Is nice! You got one for all of us right?

I went ice skating with friends and had Ethiopian food.

T47 or BSA?

seau grateau 01-24-18 05:52 PM

Took the road bike out today, 26 miles, 2200ft climbing. Hill repeats hurt.

johnnytheboy 01-24-18 07:19 PM
