Swapped out the Phil BB I had originally used on my last Steamroller for a generic one. I never had problems with it in my previous 'roller but every since I took it out of that frame I've haven't been able to get it to run quiet. My previous Steamroller had a different Phil BB in it when it was stolen and that one had no issues. The one I took out yesterday made noise in both of my new bikes I've tried it in. The crank tapers showed some slight gouging from the end of the spindle but it's working well now. Not sure what was going on.
One of the things I love about my Steamroller--there are many--is that it's solid, smooth, and quiet.* Everything on it is quiet. It's not light or fast, but I can ride it on any surface and never hear the kinds of noises that should not come from any well built bike. Glad you got yours figured out. * Is that technically three things? Might as well make it four: it's also durable. |
today i sold my crux and bought two leather jackets. |

Today I rode a century.
106 miles at 18:4 MPH average. 5:48 moving time and 6:22 total time. Pretty happy about that. |

nice ride Tim.

Today I closed on a 2 car garage that also comes with a house :) Its all about bike storage lol.

Despite being visually unremarkable, I decided I really like my Surly rear hub and would use it again in another build.

Don't be mad at me when you or your family members throw away the important instructions you need to set your lock combination. I don't know which lock you bought over the phone and I don't set anyone's combo because I don't want to have that info. Buy a keyed lock and don't lose the key like an adult. The only reason I replaced my original U-lock key is because I cut the key ring part down and it eventually fatigued and broke so I had to replace that key, I have had that same old lock for 12+ years now and still have 3 keys that came with it.
Also had a lovely commute home and ate Thai food which makes everything better. |

Today that thing you never think is going to happen to you happened to me. Thought the driver saw me as we both slowed down, I assumed he was giving me the right of way to cross in front of him, just as I was in front of the bumper he tried to enter traffic while looking the opposite direction. Luckily I was pushed out of the way by the bumper, my precious baby that I just finished building up the way I like was completely destroyed though. Literally not a single part came out unscathed. :( I'm heartbroken but completely unharmed. The company who employed the driver who hit me has agreed to pay the cost to replace it. |

Wow oh my gosh. Glad you are ok. I know how that feels, got clipped by a car's mirror once. It took a little while to get comfortable riding after that, but I think that's normal. Hope you get a decent bike from this. Let us know how it turns out!

Glad you are OK coffinjewel.

Thanks! I hope I'm not too scared about riding after this, I'll definitely be more shy about drivers pulling out of driveways though. I'm off to the shop tomorrow to see what I can replace it with. If nothing catches my eye I'll probably end up building up something vintage again. Any suggestions for contemporary steel bikes with pretty lugs and relaxed geo under the 1000$ mark are welcomed (but unlikely)

Today I got the Strava KOM on a segment I have been working towards for months. I know a lot of people could care less about Strave and/or KOM, but to me it is a measurable way to gauge improvements and gives good motivation to push harder. And it feels kinda good to be the fastest on a fast, hard segment. :speedy:

Big one for me today, 95 mi with 4500' elevation in 5:10 rolling, with some solo riding bracketed around a group ride. Rode hard, felt good!
Now it's time for a fancy dinner with the lady, with some wine, and then a solid night's sleep. |
Planned on doing track races today but woke up not feeling it. Took the road bike out instead, did a chill 40 miles, and stop by the velodrome to cheer on the racers for a bit.

I got my first KOM yesterday. Was stunned to see the crown icon but turns out it was an obscure trail and I had beaten one other guy. One. |
