Today I took a spin on the Lakefront Trail and got some good old fashioned Non Drive Side pics.

Today I booted my fancy rear tire after finding some frayed threads in one spot, but determining that the inner layer was still perfectly intact. If it explodes and kills me, it was good knowing all of you.

Today I went for a nice 7-mile ride after refreshing my fixed-gear. New Rat Trap Pass tires, 44T Vuelta USA chainring, 16T Euro-Asia cog, KMC K1 (they're still "Kool" to me) chain. Finally my whole drivetrain is 1/8". And with true balloon tires, everything feels right on this bike.

Today, I participated in my first running event, all thanks to my friend's encouragement. It turned out to be an incredible experience as it was a fun marathon. To be honest, I used to despise running because, well, I thought I wasn't very good at it.
After the event, I hopped on my fixie and rode around town with my friends. We headed out to grab some delicious noodles and coffee, and later on, we all decided to chill at the fixie shop. Hanging out with my friends there was the perfect way to cap off the day.
Overall, it was a fantastic day filled with running, cycling, good food, and wonderful company. Life just keeps getting better (hopefully)

Today I bumped this thread
This week though, bought a new bike (gravel/workhorse/kid hauler) because I have a 9mo to haul around SF. Also put a sweet bottle cage on the town fixed gear

Here ya go! It is heavy though, since it's all metal. It isn't a super tight hold, but the aesthetic is worth it LOL

It was an ehmergency
It is neat I have many of the PDW animal cages which are cheaper but maybe I might consider this one though it seems like this rip-dip thing is one of those modern hype things the chilrens are all talking bout.

Whoa the PDS animal cages are sweet. TIL they exist
A cage may be 40 dollars, but the style is priceless (or something). The rip-dip thing I swear I saw on a pocket t-shirt maybe 4~5 years ago and thought it was hilarious. I do agree, I think the youths appreciate the brand? Maybe it's over now that us olds are adopting it.

Fixed gears died completely and those who rode them decided to go on a rampage against them while they ride on cushy gravel bikes. (to be fair that didn't happen but one of our newer posters made a whole thing about that.
Ole' Scrody is gone but that is maybe not news. Beyond that more of the same old same old though it has slowed a touch around here in general but we still have some fun once and while.
How have y'all (singular) been?

Today I rode 9.5 or so miles on my very favorite bike ever, venturing out of the neighborhood to enjoy a few miles of moderately flat roads where I could roll along like a normal human vs the alternating slow standing on the pedals uphill/hamster on a wheel downhill spinning of this place.
I love this bike, and the dirty little secret is that it could be my only bike and I would be okay. But that is heresy, right?

Yeah this whole website seems like it's crawling compared to what it used to be.
I've been great. I've built a couple FGs/SSs since getting the shadow boot here, I'll post them in the pictures thread. And also a couple gravel bikes 😂
Yesterday I did my standard 13.8 mile rolling hills fixed gear workout, for interval training. It was my third time in the past month doing this workout. At some times in the past, I've been able to do it about once a week, and at other times I've gone many months without it, due to various circumstances. I have one bike that is pretty much dedicated to this particular workout, and I like it so much I will probably never part with it. My other fixed gear has nothing in common with this one, aside from the drivetrain type. It seldom gets ridden, but I still like to keep it around.
At 54 years old, I seem to be getting a little slower. I've been doing this workout on and off for 6-7 years, and I keep a detailed log. The past three times, my average speed was just under 18 mph. In the past, I've achieved an average as high as 19 or even 19.5 a time or two. My PR lap time was around 3:55 (lap = 1.38 miles) and my best time ever for the whole workout included several laps under 4:10. Now I average around 4:30, and I'm doing good if I can get one lap under 4:20. I'll keep working on it and try to go consistently about once a week.
Someday, maybe later this summer, I'll find ideal weather conditions, I'll eat right all day, maybe I'll be down a few pounds from my current weight, and I'll go into it really determined. I'll get anther sub-4:10 lap (maybe even break the 4:00 again), and I'll get an average speed above 19. That's my hope. As always, there are multiple activities competing for my time and energy: running, road biking, fixed gear, hiking, and a few others, not to mention all the regular stuff like work and family responsibilities.
