Find a Carbon BB30 or PF30 frame and use one of these eccentric bottom brackets. http://beercomponents.com/
Would you recommend that over and ENO hub? Wondering because I am trying to decide if carbon BB shells vs carbon dropouts like the extra torque on having to cope with either the ECC BB or the ECC hub. Thinking of converting my CR1 Scott one of these days when I pick up a Foil or a Venge and it has a BB86 shell meaning I would have to go with an ENO hub... but the rear dropouts are full carbon on that bike and not sure if they would hold up to the hub twist and the extra clamp needed to keep it tensioned properly. But I have to say a 14lb SS with a stiff power delivery sounds really enticing. On an unrelated topic, Is there any interest in doing another Group Powder Coat in Sac again? My Surly 1x1 single speed Xtracycle needs to stop being boring black..... PM me if you think we can coordinate that again. It was a smoking deal last time. |
most carbon bb shells are so stupidly overbuilt it's silly to think they can't take an eccentric force well. as with anything, i think a better frame is probably better suited to it, but without going with something that has replaceable/sliding dropouts like one of those old aegis style dropouts, i think bb30 is the best bet.
what was the verdict on that carbon footprint felt was buzzing up about? |

I have been looking for a single speed to add to the stable. I have an Italian steel road bike and an aluminum grocery store hybrid so I thought "Hey a carbon single speed might be fun!" Imagine my surprise when I went looking and could not find a single example. It seems logical to pair the light weight of carbon with the simplicity of single speed. So help me out here: any carbon single speeds on the market? If not why not? Does carbon not lend itself well to single speed?
I had a 5 year old Storck Scenario, but it takes quite an investment because you need to use a White industries Eccentric Eno flip flop to cater for lack of adjustment to get the chain on and to the right length, but I needed new wheels anyway and then you have the chain set 48 and rear cog 18 as well as new brake hoods Cost about £1,000 plus my frame, but great fun on both freewheel which I use or fixing if you can get used to it Weighs about 15lb so quite easy going up 7% hills |
