I've been riding with no brakes since I got it a couple weeks ago. I ordered the brake for the front and it arrived today and that is when I discovered to problem. I would like to be able to use the front brake. Although i did wonder about the excessive play in the headset. Unless i tighten the cap down to where the steering is stiff it clangs pretty bad.
hopefully they will replace the fork |

Haha, you guys is crazy!
I had the lbs install the headset which is a ritchey Logic Pro scuzzy thing. They seemed confident that they did the right thing. I don't know anymore.... Not that I ever did. |

But it sounds like you are missing something in that headset as others have said. |
When I get home I will disassemble it and post a pic.it would be funny if it was missing a piece because they said the original headset was missing a piece before they changed it out.
I emailed BI so hopefully will hear back tomorrow. Thanks for your suggestions everyone. |

Interesting, OP. I just received my Kilo Team frame, so this piqued my interest. I went and slapped on an old front brake onto the fork and found I would have a similar problem, as the nut and top of the brake sticks out ~1mm. I also slid on an old crown, which further shows there would be an issue. Scope these pics.
http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=323157http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=323158 Also, someone mentioned something about the legs being short. Now, I placed my fork with the brake on over my old front wheel and the clearance is fine. Yet, putting the Kilo fork next to my old Peugeot fork, it's noticeably shorter, ~2cm. Now here's a dumb question, but I'm new to this and learning: are forks different sizes for different sized bikes? My Kilo is the 47cm, or 50cm for CtoT. My Peugeot is 56cm (way to big for me, but was free), CtoT. If not, this a quality issue? |

Cheers, Tejano.
****, I don't know if I want to deal with sending this back to Bike Island or if I should just file down the nut that ~1mm and call it a day. I'll email him an see what the deal is. |
On second thought, cleaned up.

Fwiw I emailed bikes direct about a fork issue on my kilo, and forwarded the email confirmation and a picture of what was wrong and I had a replacement in three days. People can say their quality is crap but noone posts when they get their bike and its perfect, they just put up a picture. I have bought two bikes from them in the past and probably will in the future. Some people in this thread feel the need to bash them, however you could call them biased because they own a boutique bike shop catered to people building their own high end fixed gear bikes.
Boutique NounA small store selling fashionable clothes or accessories. A business that serves a sophisticated or specialized clientele: "a small investment boutique"; "a boutique film". |
Sent them an email to see what my options are here.
FakeFuji, I'm with you. It's unfortunate me and the OP's bikes had these issues, but I don't have it out for BD. I bought one of their Windsor Oxford cruisers quite a few years ago and road it hard and put it away wet and even to this day it still runs and looks like a champ. Had no issues at all with it straight from the box, and it worked just as well as the Linus bikes I tried out, which are the exact same thing it seems. They make decent stuff. Plus the Kilo series is one of the few steel frames out there that has a top tube length that works for me. |

It's nice to solidify the fact that this issue is just an isolated "minor inconvenience". |

When you own a business that strives to do right by it's customers to begin with instead of "making it up to them" when things go wrong, maybe you'll understand. |

If this is aimed at me and how my business operates, you couldn't be more wrong and there are plenty of people here who can attest to that - one being Nagrom himself (regardless of how pissed he is at me for the moment).

Dang, faint small print. My old ass eyes didn't see that. I thought I had been buying boutique stuff.:p |

This is the headset: http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=323810 can you see it well enough to tell if its missing something?
I emailed BI and they sent me out a new fork. It came today so I'm stoked. They made it right and all is well. The brake will clear the crown race on the new one. |
