Kilo TT front brake issue

Hey guys I've read about people having tire clearance issues with the kilo tt front brake but I am having a different clearance problem. I can't mount my front brake because the washers don't clear the crown race/ headset. Has anyone else had this issue?

It decided to rotate the pic.

What do you mean replce it with a 44cm kilo?

What's Cosby trying to tell me?

TejanoTrackie 06-13-13 05:30 PM

The fork crown is totally effed. Send an email to BD with that photo and tell them to replace the fork.

Scrodzilla 06-13-13 05:55 PM

BD strikes again. I can totally see why everyone continues to recommend their bikes.

mauiboy81 06-13-13 06:06 PM

Dang! Well there you have it. I expected some less than stellar components and maybe a paint chip or two but if I knew it was going to be that bad I would have just bought a walmart fixie and thrashed it.

Nagrom_ 06-13-13 06:10 PM

Oh no

a minor inconvenience.

Scrodzilla 06-13-13 06:13 PM

How many "minor inconveniences" have there been now? BD's quality control sucks and no bike should be sent to a customer with an issue like that.

Yeah, there have been a lot of problems with forks on the Kilo TT over the years. Usually, it is fork legs that are too short so you can't fit a front brake even with the standard skinny front tire.

Pshaw! That's just what we call a minor inconvenience.

Yeah... cause they send you a new one for free.

Scrodzilla 06-13-13 06:18 PM

You're misunderstanding. A company as big as BD shouldn't be sending out so many bikes to customers with QC issues like that. Is that really so hard to understand?

Nagrom_ 06-13-13 06:21 PM

They don't open the boxes. I get what you're saying, but regardless, you're paying for the cheap bike, and lack of customer service and quality control.

If one in a thousand has to send a fork back to keep the bikes cheap, its a minor inconvenience.

mauiboy81 06-13-13 06:22 PM

I just want to be riding! :)

If you're someone who simply likes to "settle", sure. Justify it any way you'd like.

It's a 350 dollar bike.

That everyone recommends to everyone who will listen despite many known issues. Hey, whatever. It ain't my money.

mauiboy81 06-13-13 06:30 PM

Ps. It was from bikeisland so I knew it was blemished but the description said nothing about the fork being jacked.

What other new bike could you get for the same money of similar quality?

ftfy

That's not the point. The point I'm making is that BD - or the factory responsible for making these bikes - needs to step up their QC and stop sending out so many bunk products.

mauiboy81 06-13-13 06:33 PM

If I could afford an $1000 bike I would get one..... Oh well

Better QC would be better for everyone involved.

hairnet 06-13-13 06:35 PM

Just ride true fixie

And in turn charge more, losing their market appeal.

Got it.

Yeah, because BD doesn't make bank on the multi-thousands of bikes they sell each year. I guess that justifies standards going out the window.

Steev 06-13-13 06:40 PM

Is there a crown race on that thing?

Not anymore. They've raised the price to $399. If you consider some of the really crap parts such as the hubs, headset, seatpost, saddle and pedals, they are not such a great deal anymore. I paid $10 less for my Salsa Casseroll than for my Kilo WT when Universal Cycles had it discounted 50% on closeout, and they completely assembled and adjusted everything before breaking it down for shipment to me. No defective parts, no substandard parts needing upgrading, no missing or incorrect parts, and a much better quality bike than the Kilo WT.
