I've been riding bullhorns for a while and want to give drops a try. Had my first taste at riding on the track and really enjoyed. Can anyone recommend some good bars. I've been looking around the Internet to see what's out there. I'd like a few hand positions as my hands are in rough shape. What about the fsa wings? Should I stay away from track drops?

I'm willing to spend money on trial and error. I'm away at work and would like to come home to some new bars to try.

Track drops aren't even especially important for the track(unless you are doing lots and lots of sprints, and only sprints). Compact road drops are the way to go. If you feel like dropping some cash the 3T Ergonovas are really great.

I don't feel like dropping that much on trial and error ha.

All my track bikes that I ride on the road with drops have road drops, that have wide flats on the top and less reach and drop than track drops. I do have track drops on my sprint track bike, but I very rarely ride it on the road. Any of the following, for example:

3T ergosum is my favorite. 3t rotundo if you're looking for something deeper

note: these aren't typical "level" bars. my go-to position for long hard efforts is tucked, hands gripped (cupped?) on the tops of the hoods, forearms parallel with the drops. bars with a bit of drop before the hoods give me a nice place to rest my forearm. my favorite level bar is ritchey logic II

i like my deda rhm 02 and my velo orange grand cru rando bars (more the latter)

neither are particularly expensive and are quite different, id probably like the dedas more if i had hoods on them

if you like the positions horns give you but want to add the positions that drops give put some brake hoods on, theyre fantastical

I love the flat tops.

Thinking of going with the fsa wing pro. Price is live able if I don't like them.

Get hoods. Why are you not reaping in one of the key benefits of running road drops??? Also might as well hook said hoods to a front brake while you're at it.

I don't think the Super Pista fork is drilled for a brake. I know my Pista Concept isn't.

Also, OP said he rides track, and they won't allow brake levers with hoods, even if they're not connected to a brake.

It's drilled now considering it has taken Bianchi long enough to realize most concepts/ super pistas spend most of their lives on the streets:


They can always come off. Anyhow from his posts in the pictures from your ride thread he rides it off track as well to buy kitchen condiments. My post relating to that.

If you are not going to use hoods, the Nitto Noodle's flat ramps provide a good hand positions:



...they have a 26 m clamp though. Are my thoughts betraying me, or did Nitto have a similar bar with 31.8 mm clamp also?

They have a few oversize clamp bars, anything with "SSB" tacked onto the end of the name. I don't recall seeing any with that kind of bend, but I don't shop for Nitto bars very often.

Nitto noodles are great. I use them on one of my bikes. IMO they'd be out of place (style & function-wise)on the OP's bike though.

Which is fine regardless of what the 'brake levers attached to nothing' crew tells you.

I have Deda RHM02s on my Gara and love them. The flattish top is nice when riding in that position and there is enough room after the bend for riding in a "mock hood" position (similar to resting your palms on the bends when using bullhorns) and the drops are shallow. Either those, FSA Wing Pros or 3T Ergonovas, which have a slightly flatter top portion, are what you're looking for.

I have FSA omega (round) compact drops, I like them because riding in the drops is much easier on my old back than standard drop bars. The shallow drop position substitutes well for using hoods for climbing too. Mine is the orange bike on the left.

nother vote for the fsa wing pros real nice useful drops just like on the orange bike above plus some nice flat tops for resting your hands when your sitting up.

also recommend brake hoods and a front brake. if you have a stem with a removable faceplate, you could swap between road bars and track bars in a minute. removing/reinstalling the bars and front brake is super easy.

Don't hold me to it but I think the Omegas came before the Wing Pros and are about the same, except for the flat tops on the Wings.

If the flats don't matter too much to you there are some super deals on the Omega bars.

I'd spring for the difference.........well, I did spring for the difference. I like my Wings.

Went with some zipps. Only ergonovas they had were carbon haha. Wing pros not in my size. These felt pretty good.

These bars seem really wide. I've been riding the mash bars. 40s. I asked for 42s. They say 44 and 42 in brackets. I don't know **** about measurements on these bars.

Wide bars are great, I wish more had the option of 48cm like the Nitto Noodle. Since riding with dirt drops I think a 50cm road bar would amazing too.
