Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

bianchi d.i.s.s.

noob a'qui,

This site is dope, i can't belive i just found it? any way i'll try a thread... Iv'e been in the city for a year and a 1/2 riding a bianchi d.i.s.s., i got it when i moved here from los altos. I figured the s.s. would be a great city bike(which it is). but for free-ride stuff like stair shoots, after the ride the bike is all loose(rear wheel, chain, brakes) and wobly. I love the bike and working on it so if it breaks i'm cool with it. I'm going to stab at building a fixed gear over the next couple of months(hopefully before summer). bull-horn bars are sweet...hhh

Amazing to me how many people here are from SF. I guess in other cities Fixie's aren't popular, but not in SF!!

Amazing considering how many hills are in SF.

Good to have you here.

BTW, some of the other SF members have get togther rides in Golden Gate Park.

You can try pulling a link out of your chain to move the wheel further into the dropouts. That should help your wheel stay in place a bit better. The bike will handle a bit differently with the shorter wheelbase, which may be good or bad.
If you don't like that, buy some/a chain tug(s), and that'll keep your wheel in place.

this may just be one of the better lbs i have been to in a while....my girlfriend has been going there since we moved into downtown oakland. i met one of the guys that works there for the first time wednesday night at a bar in oakland, he introduced me to the bar owner who let us bring our bikes in and place them up on the stage...dropped by yesterday for the first time and was impressed, although the website is still under construction....but what got me was that even on piedmont blvd which for the most part means you kind of expect to pay more...their prices where wayyy better than american cyclery...even with the 10% discount i have been getting there.....well worth the trip over...

Try converting the DISS. I made mine a fix and rides sweet. Been riding snow, ice, and frozen trail with a set of Nokians. Works great, though been hitting the dirt on the steep and slick stuff.

i love the d.i.s.s. frame w/ the fatty tubes, it would make a great looking fixer! I guess i'll have to buy a hardtail freeride to take her place. jk... I will start my part search this weekend(frame, ect.) and see where it takes me. I'm pysced, cause since i crashed my streetbike and my girl banned me i,ve been wearing holes in the apt. floor pacing for a new project. thanks all , and keep a steady flow w/ the ideas and tips....
