Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

When you remove decals from an old frame, they smell horrible

Sorry, which reality have I stumbled into?

Now, the editor in me wants to know, what stinks, the frame or the decals

incidentally, I enjoy this sort of thread

That is the frames defense mechanism. I hear if you lick it, you're on a trip for days, maaaaan.

Kind of like when your teacher in grade school would hand you a new assignment fresh off of the blue ink ditto machine and the first thing you did was smell the paper?

did you ever notice it is not so much the crashing that hurts, but the sudden stop .

To be technical, I am assuming that as you are pulling that sticker off it is creating friction and heating up the glue, letting off a faint amount of burnt material into the air and that is what you are smelling.

Hmm… I started school in the 80s and I don't think I ever had my teacher give me anything off a ditto machine…

(yeah, yeah, I'm getting off your lawn now… )

The old ditto machines that the teacher had to hand crank, it used a carbon paper. It put blue ink on the paper and the letters were always fuzzy and hard to read. Hmmm, maybe your school was ahead of their time and had already switched to copy machines

I ride past a Sizzler restaurant on my way home every night and it ALWAYS smells exactly like ****. Anyone else ever notice this? I mean it smells just identical to ****.

I ride past a mexican restaurant going to and from work, and it smells like an opportunity to buy bigger clothes.

Teacher used to use them? Sheesh, I used to use the rotten things and no, I have no memories of glamour associated with them.

I dont think the pleasure was on the teachers side, but strictly on the students end with the mild contact high of smelling the newly printed paper.

Did you ever notice that a lot of those kids on "Saved By The Bell" seemed to be vaguely Dutch?
