Y'know, I don't wanna be "that guy", but seriously? What happens when your wheel collapses dropping off a curb? What happens when you bust a crank? What happens when your handlebar breaks?

These are all things that have happened to me or people I know on freewheel bikes with brakes. If your whole mindset is "what happens when disaster strikes?", why even bother cycling? Stick to something relatively safe like walking or planes.

What happens when you drop your chain on your single speed as you are accelerating? In my case, you go over the bars and face first into the pavement, brakes notwithstanding.

Personal anecdote: 9 years on brakeless fixy, never broke a chain, never broke a strap. Is this evidence that it's completely safe? No, of course not, but then again I change my chain once a year, use double straps and keep my bike impeccably maintained. I can't speak for other riders, but I know there are a lot of people riding unsafe bikes in an unsafe manner. Unfortunately, we can't scare those people into riding smarter.

I like a nice Darjeeling with tea masala. (no milk or sugar, though)

Hmm... I actually didn't take anything off of my bike. But you're right, I'm getting out the drill when I get home.

Also, love the smug and superior "brah". You're like the guy that trolls the video game websites telling everyone how much better his PC is than everyone's stupid, lame Xbox. Keep on doin' whatever you do, "brah".

Hey hey hey.

Simmer down.

I cleaned up the insults; refrain from them in the future.

I just had an awesome deli chicken enchilada with green hot sauce and a chilled bottle of Perrier.

It's how I learned in Philly.

Philly-CA transplants, w00t w0000000t. Build a bike that doesn't suck and move out of Thunderdome so we can go on rides and talk about Rocky and stuff.

is it really always sunny there?

seau grateau 09-09-13 08:30 PM

No. It is, however, always sunny in LA. Weird right?

Velo swooz did you get the info you needed, should this thread be closed since you said you were going to stay with the locals?

Off topic, but is your avatar a real photo, or photoshopped? Those eyes are SUPER blue

Siu Blue Wind 09-09-13 11:18 PM

I found it online. I think it's a real pic.
