Are those cranks going on that frame? Aren't they downhill cranks?

Yea, I realized it halfway into the bid, so I talked to the guy and I'm actually looking for a normal single geared crankset. I'm going to be using my bike for some "hardcore" commuting so any crank suggestions. I'm all ears....

I doubt any crankset currently on the market will hold up to your hardcore commuting.

Scrodzilla 09-09-13 05:49 AM

Is that a new extreme sport? Sounds intense!

TejanoTrackie 09-09-13 06:46 AM

No brakes commuter. That's pretty hardcore.

CyclingDaily 09-09-13 09:50 AM

haha, the 3 comments above me, hilarious.

VELO_SWOOZ 09-09-13 11:36 AM

Sarcasm, already lol. I was just trying to describe the conditions I am about to be riding in. I live in the the California valley. Being from Baltimore and previously riding in philly for a year these condition are "hardcore" to me. "as i wrote the word hardcore i just knew the internet wouldn't let it ride... Thanks for the comments and I am in search of a crankset 35-40 tooth/ 175 if anyone has one.

Which California valley are you in? I live in the San Fernando Valley and I'm riding a Pre Cursa with 46t chain ring/17t cog. Also riding with a front brake. Would not ride on the streets around here without a front brake but looks like the fork you have is not drilled for front brake

Also you probably don't want a 175mm crank

It sounds like you should do a LOT more research before spending one more dollar.

rms13 09-09-13 01:45 PM

the suggested workflow is to do research and ask questions here before you buy something not the other way around

And this.

A) Those are not the right cranks for your build. If you're in flatlandia (aka the valleys of CA), running anything less than a 42T crank is silly as you'd need < 15T cog to get faster than 12mph at 100rpm
2) 175mm cranks are a horrible idea for a FG bike. You need to be able to take a turn without pedal strike
C) Front brake or not is your choice but I recommend starting with a front brake

Do more research, then come back with more specific questions. Don't spend money on the wrong (or crappy) stuff.

Ok let's ground out the subject of forum Etiquette. I'm apart of plenty,I know the ropes and I posted the frame because I did actually purchase it and the crank because I wanted some help on the selection and apparently it worked because it brought out a rider of the exact bike and now I'm more educated as to what cranks I can use. (Thanks btw).

Now the crank situ. It was something I was bidding on, after research I found it wasn't the right fit. Let ease up a bit eh.

As for the brake thing I wanted it with no drill for brakes because I like riding brake less and using my straps. It's how I learned in Philly. And I'm in the waste lands of Fresno unfortunately....
FYI jut brought the frame five min. Ago.

According to the post I quoted above you're still looking for a crankset having 35-40t, which is pretty ridiculous for commuting (whether hardcore or otherwise) on the street.

VELO_SWOOZ 09-09-13 02:46 PM

My current bike btw

What happens when your chain snaps or comes off?

What happens when your straps snap?

Idk you fall, I mean it's not a big deal to me if I have been doing it this long with a setup that doesn't even have straps or clips I don't think it would be a problem on my new setup. I'm just looking to build a nice fast, reliable masher. I know plenty of riders that dot use brakes and are either manpower or straps/clips.

Idk be a braver rider lol. Jk
