I'm looking to replace my seat. I know everyone loves Brooks, but what are some other brands/models that are comfortable and nice looking? Selle Italia? Selle San Marco?

I got a San Marco, that I think came as stock on a Bianchi. Its got the gel insert for the junk pad. I like it better than a Selle Italia I got with the same gel insert. The bianchi stock saddle has more cushion. It all feels nice though with chamois under my butt.

I bought both of these because they were cheap and came in cool colors.

in the pics, the San Marco is Celeste and the Italia is Red

OH! I almost forgot. I have a Specialized body geometry saddle as well with a cut out for the junk, and it feels pretty comfortable. I noticed a lot of people swear by these. I always try to wear chamois shorts underneath the other layers. For me, with the chamois all saddles feel nice an cushy.

Specialized Alias which comes in three sizes, and Fizik Arione which has a nice long nose, and adjusts itself to your body without the hassle of leather care.

I heard WTB makes some vegan saddles.

Home made kind. Old drops off a wrecked bike. Flipped and cut. Hacksaw. 20 minutes.

I've never used the Alias, but I had a Specialized BG saddle with a cutout that felt like a knife cutting into my ass after awhile- WITH padded shorts. Personally, I hate cutouts... and gel inserts- anything that has an edge or goes from gel soft to firm (which functions as a sort of edge). My theory for saddles is that shape is everything (which is probably also why Brooks have such a loyal following). I love the SLR- which has no padding at all. They just aren't robust enough for my commuter.

I have a few Selle Italia saddles, which I love, but in building up project bikes, I've found that I can haul in Fizik saddles on ebay quite cheaply. They make great saddles- made in Italy- but they are like the red-headed step child after SI and Selle San Marco (except for the Arione). I picked up a new TI railed Pave for $30. I also purchased one of their Poggios for about the same. The Arione looks great- but you'll pay for it- even on ebay. Fiziks usually come in all sorts of colors, if basic black won't do. I have had trouble with colored saddles discoloring. I think grease or grime gets worked into the cover. YMMV.

Aside from the Brooks, I'm also a big fan of the original Selle Italia Turbo. I've scrounged six of em up on EBay over the past couple months.

Wish I'd bought a couple when Nashbar was selling off the NOS they'd gotten.

I got one of those and after 200 plus miles of dieing pain and assgony I had to get rid of it


I am so glad I found this saddle. I can sit on one of these all day and only have minor discomfort.

Moral of the story. No one can tell you which saddle to buy but when you find one you like get three of them...

I just picked up a white perforated Turbo from Nashbar and I love it. I know it's only gonna get more and more comfy when i break it in too.

Find an old Selle Italia Flite.

Tear all the leather and padding off.

Marvel at how surprisingly comfortable and supportive it is.

My fixed and my geared both sport stripped Flite saddles.

The Forté Pro SLX from Performance is light, sexy, not ungodly expensive, and very comfy. This definitely GMV.

I have a Performance Forte team, pretty comfy. Similar to above but is a little heavier and doesn't have a cutout.

You can't go wrong with a sella italia flite, I've got(and gone through) a few of them. Comfy, great looking and you can find them anywhere...

If you want to be old school, how 'bout the cinelli unicantor? Those are nice too, I've had a couple of them as well.

Or maybe a kashimax five gold? The sickest(hardest) saddle I've ever owned.

i have a selle san marco era, an older serfas, but for total comfort i love my WTB saddle.

Although I don't have one yet, I'll have to put in another vote for the NEW specialized BG. At least three of my friends have them and they love them. I haven't heard anything bad about the new ones, just people who've had bad experiences with the older ones. maybe after a bunch of years with failed designes, they finally found one that works.

i bought a white turbo from nashabr a while back and was saving it for something special. yesturday i decided what the hell....ill try it out...so i bolt it on my bike then lean bmy bike up against a wall to go grab something from insiede.

30 seconds later i came back out to find that my bike had fallen over...and my pristine white turbo was well not so pristine. it now has a gast in the left side

sure it adds to charachter.... but i want perfection! argh

I love the old Selle Italia Turbo--original flavor, please. They don't make them anymore and Nashbar seems to have cleared out their stock. However, I ordered a couple of Turbo Specials from them for $15. As far as I can tell it's the regular Turbo but with gold tone rail and some gold metal badges on the nose and back that say Turbo Special where the logo is normally screened on. Personally I think it's a little tacky compared with the Turbo's normally understated professionalism...sort of like putting spinners on a BMW 325. But maybe you'll feel otherwise. Anyhow, still a fine saddle.

It looks like selection may be limited seeins as how when I ordered mine I actually got to select a color (I picked white) but when I opened them up just now, they were both black and now Nashbar doesn't have any colors listed.

For sheer old school torture see if you can track down a Selle San Marco Concor Supercorsa. A thin leather cover glued to concrete as far as I can tell. It's actually a really nice shape, but not much for padding. It wasn't built to be a long haul saddle.

Another vote for the Selle Italia Flite. I now have one for each of my bikes. It's simple, comfy, and looks great!!!
