Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Rat Fink

Anyone ride a Electra Rat Fink? Was thinking about buying one as a parade bike.

Is that the bright green one? You'll probably see a younger kid in the neighborhood with one. It's held up, is a really nice looking bike. He spends a lot more time doing BMX than cruising now though.

Make sure you have a cool outfit too when you ride that... and put those tassell thingeys on the ends of them. Don't forget the sparklers.

I'd like to build myself a crazy looking bike for that purpose too.

Elektras are supposed to be really nice bikes. Good prices too.

Wow, looks like they made a few changes. The one in the 'hood looks like this.

This is my favorite of the Electra bikes. It would make a wicked fixed gear cruiser.

Many of their models with the larger 'gas tank' area have rear facing horizontal dropouts. I've thought of converting my 3 speed coaster to fixed, but I get too much pedal strike already. The bottom bracket is way low.

It is sort of like this one. You can almost see the drop outs if you squint just right.
