Either scenario, you view letting it go in one manner or another a waste. Especially the older units as pictured, as they are most definitely were made better back then and never will be again with the current trend of "disposable" tech.
I actually had a similar scenario in my man cave where I work on these old machines for fun. By design, these units stack up on each other like legos, how else would you store a large quantity of them?
The majority of mine are vintage vacuum tube or solid state marantz and mcintosh though. With a couple large high-end "ghettoblaster" boomboxes as well. Mine are all in storage since the move.
It looks like the majority of the components shown are tape decks. They were probably acquired for very cheap or free under the assumption of the previous owner that it was obsolete or "broken" due to a simple perished rubber drive belt. Which is a simple fix assuming you're willing to go through the trouble of manuvering your way through an often claustrophobic internal layout in these units.
Who knows, this might even be his side-hustle and that's his parts bin/ pile. Being in the know about this, there's folks out there with quadruple the pictured amount who do hi-fi repair for a living.

Any photo of large quantities of redundant items in a personal living space evokes a negative vibe in me. I understand that my reaction is my issue.

This is actually a very common occurrence with people who are into hifi/ repairing vintage hifi. They end up accumulating hifi components. You find them often times for cheap or free on the side of the road and end up repairing it or keeping it around as a parts-donor.

Totally agree about disposable tech. I have a 1973 Sony Integrated that keeps kicking and sounds better than newer stuff I have which prob cost 10x what the sony cost. Not to mention discrete components. Parts quality wasn't great on caps and resistors back then, and the stereos still sounded great.

That's cool you have Mac stuff. I love the glass fronts and glowing gauges, not to mention the sound. What units do you have?

I'm more of a vintage marantz guy personally. Having always appreciated mid-century design, they are a lot more ascetically pleasing to look at than same-period mcintosh. Mentionable marantz I have are an early-model engraved faceplate 2275, model 150, 2500, and 4400.
Component-wise, my go-to's are pioneer for my CD player (PD-91) and technics for my turntable (SL-1200 mk1).

Pricey but I heard it works well. I'm wondering if spicy V8 juice might do the same thing.

Scam. HUGE. I can only think of bad things to say when I see companies do this stuff. And it blows my mind that people are naive enough to buy this crap.
"It's breakthrough in Sports Nutrition"
Foyk off. It's a breakthrough in marketing hype and a world record for taking advantage of the naive.
The 50% off price is a great deal at $213.00 per gallon.
The normal price puts it at over $100.00 per quart. Read that again. Over $400.00 per gallon.
Now, check out these exotic and impossible to source ingredients. It's super sophisticated stuff. There is nothing on Earth like this special recipe.
Oh, wait, I can get all that regular stuff at a regular grocery store. Oops. I already have a bunch of it in the kitchen.
Is this a joke****************************************
Look at that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can make a gallon of that for 25 cents.
Who falls for this kinda stuff?

I got a Brooks C13 in the 158 width (or whatever the wider more C17 like width is) put it on the Chilkoot and so far so good. Not absotutely great but I am still dialing in the fit on the bike so it will end up working out just dandy as all my other C17s are on the other bikes.

Been a while since I've posted, but the most notable things I've gotten recently are two sets of Giro Prolite Techlaces, a set of Deda Newton Shallow bars, and a new bike.
