Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

bending eggbeaters

Anyone else ever bend a chromo eggbeater while stomping up steep hills? I cracked and bent a spindle a few months ago. Crank Bros sent me a replacement set cheap. Now the same right side pedal is feelin' a
bit out of kilter and I'm afraid the same thing might be happening. If so, can you recommend a stronger pedal for a 220 lb hill climber?

Thanks. DanO

I haven't- but have contemplated what a bit of pedal strike might do to the fragile looking "beaters." I know some mtbers that have crushed them against rocks.

I bend crank spindles with great frequency. You might double check that your spindle is straight, as it will cause a similar feeling.

Whatever broke the pedal spindle could have bent your crank spindle too.
