New to cycling. Just some questions about 88mm wheels and hubs

So I have a 54cm purefix bike currently set to single speed pictured here
https://i.imgur.com/w3v9UTm.jpg

I am currently looking around for a 88mm carbon wheel for my rear wheel. Only problem is I would like one with a flip flop hub so I can continue coasting on my bike. My question is: can I find a 88mm wheel with a flip flop already attached or will I have to purchase it separately? I'm brand new to cycling and I welcome any feedback. I've been primarily looking at these, btw Carbon Track Clincher Bike Wheel 88mm Only Rear Wheel Fixed Gear | eBay. (88mm clinchers)

If somehow doing this is a bad idea, let me know why. I'm here to learn whatever I can. I enjoy bikes. Primarily the customization process (and of course riding).

My suggestion is don't worry about carbon wheels, they are expensive and not necessary if you're riding street. Head over to velomine.com and check out there fixed gear wheel sets. They have plenty and allot are budget friendly.

I just really fancy the 88mm wheels. I like the look. I'm not really concerned with price and are you saying there are no benefits to having carbon wheels? Elaborate. I will check out that site, btw. Thanks

Have you ridden a rim like that on the street before? Crosswinds will be your favorite thing ever.

I know it may be hard for you, and most of this forum, to believe but there is still a huge population of sw8 fixay riders out there whose taste is the complete opposite of the BFSSFG officially approved style. I sporadically attend a couple of "urban social rides" & around here, the past few years they seem to be reproducing exponentially. I used to question them about their bikes, but realized that they are perfectly happy riding them and that their choices do not affect me in the slightest, so bless 'em. Super deep rim clownish multi-colored bikes may not be for me (or you?) but obviously OP is one of those guys who is into that stuff, and if that is what he likes...enjoy.

Jgovia - the simple answer to your question is yes, you can use a freewheel on that wheel you linked. I guess an advantage of it being carbon is intead of only being 1000g, who knows god-awful heavy it could get if it was alu.

Have fun & good luck...

Yes. I researched the crosswinds issue and I'm not too worried about that. I can handle it

IAmSam. I was waiting for the usual cycling elitist response. Glad you got that out the way. Appreciate you answering the question, though. Thanks!

Did you search ebay for 88mm track wheel flip flop hub? This took two seconds...

Putting an 88mm carbon track wheel on a Pure Fix with riser bars on it is the best idea ever!

Advertised weight in either of those links is more than my Wabi rear wheel. So they are heavier, will be worse on windy days, have less quality control, and are more expensive.

Slick deal.

You can also run a freewheel on a fixed/fixed hub, just can't run a fixed on a freewheel hub(properly).

If OP wants to look like a clown and have people laugh at him while he rides a rear wheel worth more than his entire bike, let him.

Why does my choice in wheels make you so angry? It's almost as if it's being done to your bike. Lol relax.

just checked the specs on the wheels I'm purchasing. It's actually lighter than my current wheel. Money isn't an issue.

When did I ever say I was angry. I'm not even in the slightest. I just think it's stupid that you want to put on a 88mm carbon wheel on your **** bike, and if that isn't bad enough, with a freewheel, and you don't even know how bikes work. What's the point? You won't see any increase in performance. What, money burning a hole in your pocket? There's so much better you could spend $200 on than that.

You will look like a clown, and people will laugh at you. And then someone will steal your rear wheel for crack money.

Don't really care about being laughed at. Never was the type to worry about others opinion (especially if it isn't constructive)

and cannondale125...I love single speed bikes. Also looking into a new frame as well.

If you don't care what people think about your bike, then why are you buying a carbon wheel? For performance reasons? Are you going to race your PF on the track?

Did you look at magic ellipses if money is no option? Really nice light wheels, and when you go race on the track they will be fast

Then buy a real bike, and not a hi-ten frame PF.

Your posts are so informative. Thanks for all of your help, man. Looking into some "real bikes" now.
