I put full fenders and lights on one bike, a rack on another, and keep one very minimalist... I suppose I could put the rack on the bike with fenders and make that the rain bike, but I need to maintain a reason to keep the racked bike...

I'm one who believes that you can have more than one....hmm, Did I say that on the SS/Fixie Forum. Shame on me. I'm new to this venue. I have an IRO MARK V that is just about finished. However, I rode a track bike (Nishiki) for training when I was racing, eons ago it seems. It remains to be see how much it will be ridden. So far I enjoy it immensly. I'm awaiting the brake and levers. I have cow horns and tri levers coming as well as dropped bars for which I have some levers already. So I'm a newbi riding with no brake. But I have excellent bike handling skills. It is very flat here. I'm using a 44X16. I'm a spinner 95/105 or higher. It remains to be seen how much I will ride it. I have quite a few bikes and use them for different venues. If this fixie bike sticks there may be a SS/MTB in the mix too. I really like this SS/fixie forum. I'm a bike junkie. The pictures of the various bikes you have built are awsome. I'm gonna take some pictures of the bike in it's current state. It has a pair of "cowhornish" bars on it. I want to see what you think of them.

I have eleven, seven of which are fixed. I have two conversions completed so far this year. I want more.
I may get my roadie rebuilt too. I haven't repaired it after having crashed on it last July. I need to do that to face the fear. It needs new handle bars and is wanting a ti frame. Hopefully several more fixie projects after that.

"We are few now, but one day we will rule." That's what my fixed-gear whispered.

which begs the obvious question: which bike, exactly, was whispering to you? and what do the other ones say?

you having eleven bikes makes me feel not so bad about contemplating a fourth for myself.

bostontrevor 03-21-05 08:13 PM

Three, I have three.

One tall(er) geared track-for-street, one conversion w/ fender for the inclement weather, and one fixed/free mtb.

Personally the first is my favorite. If it's a nice day out, I love to just get on it and go.

I am contemplating a geared ride: either a sweet old early-80s roadie with downtube shifters and all that or some more recent lightweight maybe with 105 STI. One is like playing an instrument while the other is weapon-like in its precision. But I seem to always have more pressing needs for the finances.

mr shadow.. eleven is too many.. seven fixies? i hope youre taking the neighborhood onn rides.. unless they are show bikes from the 50s or something.. i just think thats stupid.. and i love bikes.. but the day will come when you look around your house and say "seven fixies? wtf was i thinking.." and you'll sell a few.. whats the point of bikes you dont ride? thats like keepinng toys in the plastic..

I have a bunch of bikes:

Fixed Gear- I ride it the most

Road Bike- Has a rack and panniers now, I ride it slightly less then the fixie, usually when I am in a hurry or tired

SS MTB- Gets action on the trails and the rides to the trails

Crappy Fixie- I'll probably dismantle this thing soon as I only rode it this winter in the snow

Mutant Bike- Fun to ride, soon to get a banana seat, just for tooling around the neighborhoods

Beach Cruiser- Needs to be fixed but a nice leisurly tank of a bike

all of these reside in a storage closet. one must be taken out if I want to move around inside.

and at my dads:

BMX- couldn't resist an old school Schwinn Mag Scrambler for $5 at the thrift store

10 Speed- Schwinn Collegiate, Gift I gave to my dad when his car crapped and he was broke for a few months, we share it

sloppy robot 03-21-05 09:16 PM

so whose going to be the first to use the word "quiver"

auk 03-21-05 10:06 PM

I look at my collection of bikes as arrows in a quiver. There ya go sloppy robot. :)

I'm up to seven total, with 5 of them being fixed. They all get used, although the mtn bike is the least by a far margin. Only one that's not been out yet is the Slingshot, but that has more to do with I "borrowed" it seat for a different project. Now that the Paramount is sporting one of those $9.99 Regals, it will be back in rotation this week.

yonderboy 03-21-05 10:26 PM

I'm trying to pare down my collection, right now.

BMX setup for dirt jumping and urban assault.
Stock trials ride for technical singletrack. It's getting too expensive to maintain.
SS MTB for fireroading and grocery getting.
Had a geared roadie for training, but it found a new home.
I just bought a track bike for more training and racing.

Of all of those, the track bike and the SS MTB are moving into my new apartment. The other two I'll have to find homes for.

btw, "quiver" is usually reserved for snowboards.

actually.. if we are getting technical..i think its "reserved" for arrows.. but surfers have been saying it much longer then snowboarders.. so why not bikes? does stoner lexicography have boundries?

It's more like animal collectives.

should be on FGG soon. the other ride is my GTB.

Sweet. No wonder you're riding this bike. Looks comfy and classy!

ink1373 03-22-05 01:32 AM

classy is underrated these days.

anything that was beautiful 20 years ago and still is today, probably will be for as long as i'm around. timelessness is valuable.

deathintransit 03-22-05 01:43 AM

I'd like to build up a bike for doing heavy duty moving and long distance rides on. Perhaps a Crosscheck.

baxtefer 03-22-05 01:45 AM

this thread makes me feel better about buying bike #3.5

Naaaah, I've got room for at least a dozen more. It's just the dog and myself in a two story house with full basement. My fixed gears will all be geared differently and they all get a turn. I have riden all seven of the fixies this year.

(It was the Nomade that started whispering first...they all do it now. :D)

timmhaan 03-22-05 02:07 PM

i'm down to two bikes. both fit me well, but one fits like a glove. i ride that 90% of the time, even though the steel framed bike is awesome on the road. it just doesn't fit perfect so it sits a lot of the time. so sad. :(

You live in/moving to Anchorage? I'm headed there in June.

mutliple bike content:

I have too many bikes...I would probably eBay a couple but it's a pain in the ass to ship them from here in Italy.

stronzo 03-22-05 02:32 PM

i currently have 3 bikes:

winter beater - old french 531 fixed and brakeless
summer beater (when i want to wear sandles) - schwinn le tour geared
nice roadie - guerciotti geared w/campy chorus group (DT shifters)

unfortunately, the guerciotti, though gorgeous, is just a bit too tall and long for me. i'll probably EBay it soon. on the plus side, my bud, is building me a custom track frame, which should be done in the next week or so. i think 3 is a good number for me, maybe 4 if i get into longer road rides.

isotopesope 03-22-05 02:32 PM

i have nine bikes...
guerciotti sl (road bike), bianchi pista (track and some commuting), iro jamie roy (my main bike), peugeot uo-8 fixie conversion (my classic old school bike), norco mtb, ross single speed (fendered, knobby tired trail/winter bike), j.c. higgins cruiser (my getting teased for being awesome bike as it has a pink basket with flowers and and streamers), koxx level boss 1100 (stock trials bike that is almost complete) and my old mtb that will probably be parted out to other projects soon. i think my roommate has around 8 or 9 running bikes as well. i think the bathroom and the kitchen are the only rooms without a bike. i guess we each need one more. i do need a 29"er...
