Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

My legs are hurtin. I can trackstand for about 30 seconds now. Still not very impressive but good enough to give me time to get a foot on the ground before falling over.

I put my fat 28c tires on the Pista and am practicing bunny hopping on it now. Pretty fun. I know something's going to break (I hope it's not me).

Out of curiousity, how big of a gear do you feel comfortable riding without a brake?

Personally, I'm comfortable going brakeless with the 40/16 combo on my street fix.

Bikes: I built the Bianchi track bike back up today.

I'm pretty comfortable with 46x14 or 46x16 right now...

50x16 -- no hills here. that ratio is a little too big for me to skid while seated though.
