The Kavalinka's on e-framebank are about $260. When the site says "rear width: 112" does that mean the specing of the rear forks?? that seems pretty slim. Would getting parts to build one of these frames up be hard??

I spoke with my SO who's living in Japan about this, and she showed some interest in shipping Keirin frames to US (not to make a profit, but just to help out people who are into track/fixie). I'll be in Japan this summer and I will do some research on what the used Keirin frame market is like, and probably buy one or two frames for myself. I don't know much about Keirin or track frames and what to look for, so that's something I need to learn. But if everything goes smoothly this summer, we might start a small scale "operation". We'll see...

i have heard that some of the hub spacing and seatpost tube sizing is strange on these bikes. maybe someone else knows for sure. i think ceya is going to japan soon. . .

an excerpt from fgg #1,719

"the dropouts are spaced at 113mm for some reason and the slots were about 8mm so it took some respacing and grinding to get the back wheel on. the dude at the bike shop thinks the frame may have been built for a disc wheel."

Ouch. Sounds like a total PITA. I wouldn't want to go through all that trouble.

Shiznaz 03-27-05 10:27 AM

none of those frames are even close to 60cm are they?

From what I heard, you'd be lucky to find one larger then 54 cm, that's a full 12 cm less then what I need, so I feel your pain.

48x16 03-27-05 11:39 AM

Yeah I'm not willing to go through the trouble of dealing with spacing issues to have one of those bikes. I'll just get some 3Rensho decals from yellow jersey and slap em on my Bianchi! hah

raygunner 03-27-05 12:12 PM

That Gan Well is my size. Hmmm... How do I go about buying it?

I have to keep up with 165!

If you are interested, there is a bicycle specific fleamarket in Sekidobashi, Tokyo. I read that it's on the 3rd Saturday of April and October every year, so maybe you can make it.

Apparently, this is from last April.

My friend just ordered a Gan Well Pro in a purple spec paint job, I think he said it came to like 400 shipped. I'll ask him for all the details when I talk to him later.

Okay, let's do it. Maybe we arrange a charter (like a block of tickets on a flight) and get a decent rate.

raygunner 03-27-05 06:21 PM

Hell, I need a good summer vacation. Can Bikeforums sponsor it?

wangster 03-27-05 06:25 PM

"The Fixies Goes To Japan" we can make a movie of it, just fixies charging down roads in Japan. International alleycat!
