Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Looking for a cheap fixed-gear

Well, I'm looking into getting one, just as a fun bike. Cheapest I've been able to do is Fuji Track ($500), are there any other options for me?

It's not cheaper than the Fuji, but for 50 more, IRO can be had easily. If you live around the NYC area then maybe you can pick it up and save on shipping as well as tax if you pay with cash.

You could have a conversion with a proper fixed gear rear wheel for much less than 500 I'd think.

I agree:

Random 10-speed = $50
Fixed gear rear wheel = $~100
Track chain = $10

There's a few forum members here from SD area. You really should try to enlist their aid in aquiring/building one. Hopefully one of them will read this thread.

From: Dirty Jersey, no really its dirty.

Bikes: 05 Bianchi Pista, Senshin framed 20" street bmx featuring parts from Profile, We the people, primo, fishbone, Alex, Demolition, Snafu, etc etc.

The cheapest fixed gear track bikes that are prebuilt off the shelf models can be found on ebay.
1. Windor The hour, which is really a fuji track
2. Mercier Kilo TT, which is really a KHS Flight

Both are being auctioned off by the same person, I belive the name is bikechica or something like that..........
My buddy purchased the Mercier from this ebay person and loves it.
Both can be had for around $350 if memory serves correct.

Bikes: Velorazzo frame w/ Tiagra grouppo & Alex DA-22 ---- Mercier Kilo TT (fixie commuter)---- '01 Specialized Hard Rock Sport (Beater!!)

The Mercier Kilo TT is indeed a sweet bike. The only complaint I had was that it came witha bent wheel, but the seller sprtymama (who is also bikechica and associated with bikesdirect.com from what I can tell) took care of it right away and free of charge for me. Couldn't be happier. Nice light bike too. Only things I've changed are the saddle and bars (Arami gel around and nashbar bullhorns). Eventually I'll trade out the ultra durable but heavy 36x spoke wheels it came with for something nicer. But for the $350 I paid, I couldn't be happier. Even looks like a 1/8 track chain on it, although I haven't measured it to be sure.
