These 650c tires are apparently the only ones made wider than 23mm. According to slowtwitch site they run a bit narrow 26/27mm not a true 28mm. The tires are heavy at 340 but look like good commuter, touring or long distance tires. The manufacturer makes them only for R&E Cygles. R+E Cycles - 650c Tires & Tubes. Richard of Wabi thought the tires should fit both the old and new 650 frames.

I have the Terry Tellus 650x28c tires on a set of 650c wheels, but they also run narrow and are fairly heavy. They are well made, however, and seem to be very puncture resistant.

The Maxxis Detonator comes in a 650x28 - I had them on my recumbent (I'm that rare beast, a failed recumbent rider). They are moderately puncture proof but run very well and they may have added the 'silkworm' layer that makes the Re-fuse so puncture resistant.

You do need to give it longer than that because they are so different, but I used mine exclusively for six months before giving up. It's not as though it was the bent either, the bloke who eventually bought it from me fell in love on his first ride and was still raving about it a couple of years later. Strangely, the recumbent crowd turned on me because I didn't like the stupid thing, it's as though I committed some awful heresy. They're just not for everyone, like most things.
