mit track?

so i got this on my space today, too bad i was stuck at work, but i hear it may be a regular thing...
Do you ride a track bike? a road bike? are you a faux bike messenger with bad hair spending your parents money with a vengance? AWESOME. people are meeting up around 6 at cambridge cycles on mass ave in central square to go invade the MIT race track. if memory serves correct, its a 200 meter 6 lane paved track with spectator bleachers. this should be alot of fun if we get at least 15 people. can you think of a better way to spend a 50 degree evening that lands on easter sunday? bring your bike, a camera, some sauce, and maybe some money to gamble.

Weird. Is this the MIT running track? They don't have a velodrome, do they?

Bikes: Crust Romanceur, VO Polyvalent, Surly Steamroller, others?

I've got a good friend at MIT, I'll ask him soon.

I wouldn't be surprised if MIT has a velodrome somewhere on campus. There all kinds of weird shi*t at MIT, like the crazy tunnels that connect everything.

The tunnels are fun. If you've never been on an orange tour, you should see if you can get the hookup. Nothing quite like crawling across the building 10 dome at 2 in the morning.

I heard they upped the on-the-roof fines in recent years.

the tunnels in ann arbor were great fun until some cretins started using them to try stealing drugs from the hospitals. surprise! heightened security...everything was easier back in the 70s.

So what's the word, dude. Is it a little velo or a running track?

MIT campus cops are used to dealing with hijinx and shenna****ns so they're usually pretty cool as long as you're not doing damage or endangering anyone.

it was just on the running track, it was fun but if it was a velodrome it would have been infinitely better. Fun no less, I lost my heat after the second corner (i'm going clipless next time) and ended up in second. If no fear t-shirts of the 90's taught me anything it's that second place is the first loser...

what ever happened to those shirts anyways? Did they all end up at the Salvation Army and get shipped off to Africa?

I wish I knew where I could find them, they had the best phrases...

if you're not living on the edge you're taking up too much space!

Darn, they all appear to be lame skater style shirts and not nearly as inflamatory as I remember. And for some reason most of them say So Cal on them now. How do I rep a place I've only been to once?

A quote from ian's bulletin

"Remember. Track Races Tonight. 10:30 on the MIT track on Vasar street (Central Sq. Cambridge). Bring Booze and your Track Bike.

Be there or kill yourself.
