Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I get what you're saying but I'm not Dr. Phil and neither are you.

Besides, keeping myself out of trouble is hard enough work.

Exactly this. I'm not even sure what the appeal is for trying to force something on random strangers.

The appeal is trying to prevent them from doing something stupid. I'm speaking strictly theoretically here. Like criminal law. Have you ever heard of the law? Making certain things criminal makes you safer.

But as Scord says, that ain't in my jurisdiction, nor should it be.

Back to the point at hand, riding brakeless on the street is usually only a risk to the rider, so does not apply. Same w drinking chilled Cabernet. Who cares
