Time for a new bike, suggestions please- First Post
Hi all,
First time Posting here.
I live in Toronto, Canada, right downtown.
I literally JUST sold my first fixie, and I feel, truth be told, a little sad.
I have ridden for one season, on a Miyata, 47", the ratio 52/16.
The reason for selling is that I'm 6'1 so needless to say I needed a much bigger bike.
So I'm looking at a few bicycles but wanted to get the opinions of people who have more experience and knowledge than myself.
The bikes that's I'm looking at are as follows:
KHS flite 100
KHS Urban Soul
Fuji feather (however have been told that this is old tech)
Fuji Classic
Norco Heart
Now I know that these bikes are varying in price range and quality.
Here's the kicker, I have found in the last little while, that riding is getting increasingly more dangerous, now compared with summer.
Each week I have a few close calls. I'm not sure at this point if it's me or the cars but my guess is that it's probably both. Either way I'm thinking that I should get something a little slower than a KHS flite 100 because that bike is stupid fast.
What would you fine folks suggest that I do? What bike will be quick and a pleasure to ride? Will I really notice a difference between the KHS flite compared to the others? What other suggestions do you guys have?
Thanks in advance!

Yeah, the KHS Flite 100 is dangerously fast. A friend of mine hit escape velocity on one and hasn't been seen since then.

try something 58cm, 59cm , or 60cm.
and ease up on the gear ratio. 52/16 is really tall for city riding.
try 44/16 or 46/16, you'll spin faster be a bit more nimble in traffic.
all the bikes you listed will suit toronto city riding just fine.
get the one which floats your boat.

I don't know if they make my exact model anymore.
I have the 2010 Speciale Fixed.
Masi Bikes - Fixed/SS - Fixed Uno Drop
This looks closest.

Looks like you are on a budget of about $500-600. My advice is go to your local bike shop that sells fixed/SS bikes and test ride the models in your price range. Buy from them and they will be there to help you out down the road. Test riding is the only good way to find out if you like a bike or not. Also the only good way to determine if it fits right. Things I would look for are a frame made of at least chromoly steel and sealed bearings through out, especially the hubs and crankset.

good luck with your purchase. If you don't buy local from what I have read Richard at wabi cycles will get you setup with something that will be a good fit and last a long time. He's a little over your budget on the classic though. I'm still trying to decide what to buy myself. I want to build it up, but if I got a complete, wabi is first on my list right now.

My first fixed gear was a Fuji Feather. I dunno what old tech you're referring to, but liked it. I doubt you need some top of the line track bike if you're worried about going too fast. Pick any one, ride it, try different angles and positions, make adjustments... that sounds bad, but you get the idea.
